He'll be starting at approx. $4.00 which is good value for a horse that is much better than the class of horse he'll meet. He'll race off the speed but there's plenty of on pace runners entered and the big roomy track will give him every opportunity to rattle over the top of them. A winner of 6 from 16 this 5yr old gelding is a full brother to the smart Victorian Molotov and possesses the same brilliant sprint as his sibling. DON'T LET THIS OPPORTUNITY PASS YOU BY. I'm giving you lot the heads up so have a go at it. Take the punt as it's great value and they rarely come along. If you hold an account with a sports betting agency I suggest you get on early if you can snap up a better price than 3/1.
Ill have a look at it thanks mate, but nobody is beating my winning bet i had yesterday. James blake to lose and Rodick to lose, in a multi, $15 on @ $36 ....and it won!! $540 back!! Though i lost on NLZ last night against Aussie, it was a long shot but was pay $8.50. I also wish i got on Safin vs Jhocovik , Safin was paying $8.55 and won. Ajay, do you bet much $$$ whats yours winning % like? are you making much money?
The majority of my punting is hobbie bets although I'll have a decent bet every so often depending on what time of the year it is. Carnival time more often as Weight For Age and Stakes class racing is more true to form than this time of year when you get runners coming from all over the state where they've had big weights at provincial tracks, etc, etc... I have a bank which is solely for punting (Off limits to the wife). I restrict each of my major bets to 5% of my bank (currently Max bet around $300) and tomorrow will be the first big bet since Black Minx won for me back on Stradbroke Hcp day. All other bets are for fun and rarely exceed $20. Do I make much money ? Well put it this way...I had a nice win back in September last year where a $40 four leg parlay returned me just under $12,000. I topped up my bank to $10,000 and put the rest into the business. After nine months my bank is down to $6,000 so I'm down since then although that is what that money is for. I don't drink or smoke, I don't play card machines and I don't go clubbing. Some people go play golf others go to the pub....I bet. Overall since I started as a 16 year old twenty years ago I'd be down too because I used to be a crazy punter before the kids came along (10+ years) Sometimes I'd have awesome wins where I'd shout my mates to Pier 1 at the Rocks or Danny's at La Parouse (get a haircut, buy new clothes and shoes...generally blow it as quick as possible) while there'd be other weeks where I'd be eating Coco Pops for dinner because my Old Man would give me an uppercut if I asked him for money after going to the track and losing my own cash. There are other things to take into consideration such as both me and the wife's family having an interest in their own thoroughbreds. Because of the cost it's a punt within itself (usually more costly than going to the TAB). Me personally, I only have one horse that isn't costing me alot because my brother is the majority shareholder although that's how I like it. Same with the wife. Anyone that wants to get serious about betting on thoroughbreds needs to make it a fulltime occupation. Not only did I do speed maps which included knowing how fast a horse would break over the first furlong of a race but I'd often go down to trackwork before dawn. As a city boy I had to get my self educated on anything and everything until I could tell one horse from another just like you can notice one human from another. Then you have to go to the track and watch them parade because you want to be sure that the horse isn't sweating up or is fractious or even a little light which could signal that the horse needs a break. And after all that you have to hope that the little man on the back of your 650kg beast doesn't falter under presure, which is a real possibility after wasting so he can make the weight limit. Overall I'd strongly advise anyone who asks NOT TO PUNT SERIOUSLY UNLESS YOU HAVE A VAST AMOUNT OF CAPITAL BEHIND YOU. For those that can come up with the funds it's easy to win your way out of trouble (as long as your good with numbers) but if you're going out to make it big with a month's worth of wages then you'll most likely crash and burn. BTW, I once had a pick the margin footy tab where I bombed out on the Friday Night after Hazim El Masri missed a conversion after the fulltime siren (I had Bulldogs 11-20 against the Roosters and they won by ten) As the week went on I ended up getting every other game correct meaning that I missed out because one of the greatest goal kickers in the history of the game MISSED!!! Worse still, it was the last kick he missed before going on to get the record of most consecutive goals. No one got it that week with a carry over jackpot of $200,000!!! I was in a state of depression for months. Enough info for ya ? :hi:
How does that work if they've been racing at different tracks or over different distances? Do you factor in times (overall and last 600m) ? How about track condition, weights, race tempo, field size...even a horse's breeding with some stock light types that come to hand early while others need racing to get fit. If you are extremely selective with the horses you bet it can work because half the runners in a maiden class event will never earn a cent.
You can factor all the above into your form, but it is less important if you look at one simple thing. And that is margins. For example: If there is a maiden race at Canberra for instance and the first 6 horses cross the line all within a length of each other, the basic principle is the 6 horses are not much good. However if the winner beats the second horse by say half a length and then there's 5 lengths to 3rd and a futher big space to the rest of the field, well that is what is called a massive positive to the 2nd horse next start. It will take me 3 days to explain it in depth but that is the basic principle. Of course there might be situations where a horse is checked and has an unlucky ran etc etc but i have just given u the basics. More to come when i'm not so busy punting :good
The next day (Saturday) I didn't really give it a second thought as I often got no more than 2 or 3 selections correct, just thought I got the loss over and done with. I remember backing Ambulance in the Queensland Sires at 30/1 and dancing around telling the missus what a legend I was to win over $3000. Come Sunday I realised that if either Wests Tigers or Manly (who were playing one another) won by less than 11 points (had them both at 1-10), along with another game that I can't remember then I would miss out on pick the margins by a ****ing point. I had already snared the upset of the round by picking Souths to beat Melbourne by 11-20 and 21+ (they won by more than 20 points which killed off 95% of the punters) so I decided to sit down and cheer on whatever team would give me another loss. Now after 15 minutes Wests had skipped away to a decent lead, which was kind of a relief as I'm an old Magpie fan while the wife has her misfunction by being a Manly supporter. But as they game went on Manly fought back and with only a few minutes remaining it was obvious that neither team was going to win by more than 10 points. From there it's a kind of blur. I know that the other game went down to the wire but in my distress I can't remember who played, nor can I remember who actually won the Wests v Manly game. What I do remember is that I didn't sleep that night and the next day I lost my Saturday's winnings of $3000 trying to back longshot no hopers at some bush track in a vain attempt of claiming what I felt was my rightful entitlement. In hindsight I should have brought $200 of medication. I've always been competitive and a bad loser. The neighbours often hear me abusing those "****ing ******ed midgets" that can't ride for ****...like Larry Cassidy today on Lodge The Deeds.
It must have been 2003. That year souths only won 3 games, and one of them was against Melbourne by about 20 - 14. I had a similar story, though it was only over $100, though I was only 10 so it felt like a lot of money, heh. Suring a game at our local league, my parents used to buy doubles (which were if you had the numbers of the first try scorers for each team you'd win $100) I had 7 for away, and cant remember what for home, but I got the home teams number up afterwards. Anyway, it was number 4's 100th game, and 7 made a break and was into the clear and nobody in sight, but passes to 4 right on the try line just so he can score on his 100th game. Not quite 200K but it was enough for me to give it to his younger brother at school the following Monday.
I just factor in the horse number, colors of the jockey and whether the horses name has any mysterious connection to me. Sometimes I don't even use the number or colors. I like to live on the edge.
