His last fight was against Nigel Wright and his next fight is against Lenny Daws if I remember correctly. When/If he fights the Romainian he will then become a fighter at International level. And even if he gets the WBC mandatory which American station will allow him to appear in a title fight on their screens?
Probably HBO or Showtime. This is a fighter that has been featured by Ring Magazine in the USA and Skysports in the UK. What should he have done not fight Nigel Wright and lose the right to win the prestigious British title to go alongside the Commonwealth belt and African Boxing Union belt he holds. I doubt anyone else has held all these belts at the same time. I guess the likes of Ali Nuumbembee and other foreign fighters he has beaten don't count as international.
I hate to **** on your dream Olu but HBO and Showtime aren't going to be interested in him. It MAY end up on a HBO card but it will be non-televised. Sorry mate, no-one is interested in him. Ali Nuumbembee was located in the UK so is regarded as domestic and the others weren't "International level" because, to me, that means those from other countries on the outskirts of "World-class" who aren't quite just there yet. Fighting someone who no-one has ever heard is not mixing it at International level. And, lets get a couple of things correct here... Ajose won the Nigerian title against a guy making his debut and the ABU title against someone who was 3-2... That is not going to impress many people.
Not at all Olu, we made peace and I respect your opinion. I will continue to voice mine however, and I don't take into account other peoples feelings. They are just my opinions. I respect you as a poster, we just disagree :good
Sounds quite similar to Carl Froch a year ago don't you think? This Romanian can be his Pascal and Alexander his Taylor. I'm not writing him off yet.
No, neither am I. I think he's a rough diamond who, and I'm sorry about this Olu, under different management may have already been proven at the fringe of World class level. There's definitly something about him but I think he's been managed poorly and too many mistakes have been made. It may be his "Pascal" moment but the diffence will be that that was a fight of the year contender. People were left wanting to watch BOTH men again. Can Ajose impress an American crowd to gain ground in the sport?
Being a big draw is one thing but it is even more important that the best fight the best. How should one be remembered for being a great fighter or great draw?
Olu, The best fight I saw last "season" was untelevised. It was on a Left Jab show and was between Ashley Theophane and somebody whose name escapes me at the moment... How many people do you think will consider it as fight of the year in December? I reckon around 100. If Ajose doesn't improve his marketibility he will not get to fight the best. The best 140lb fighter in the World is Pacquiao. How many people want to see that fight? If he moves up to 147 how many people want to see Shane Mosely or Miguel Cotto take him on? How many people are disapointed that Mayweather's come back isn't against Ajose? Unless Ajose becomes a great draw its impossible for him to get the fights that will make him, or prove him to be, a great fighter.
No problem mate. The great debates all add to the anticipation and gaiety. I personally think Amir Khan is a very vulnerable fighter. I know other rate him but there is clearly a reason he fights scared probably because he has to. I am the last one to mock the use of movement but I like to see it with attack as well as defence. Question for you I know a lot will be picking Pacman against Cotto but I must say I strongly favour Cotto to stop Pacman.
No one was interested in Azumah Nelson until he gave Sanchez hell as no one knew of Agbeko, Nana Yaw Kpnadu etc until the got the opportunity to be game breakers.
But they were the exceptions to the rule... Do you SERIOUSLY believe that in his last 10-12 meaningful fights Ajose will achieve something that will have people talking about him in 20 years time? If so, how are YOU, as his manager, going to help him achieve it? I mean, with all due respect, he can't even sell out the York Hall, so who wants to see him in America?
In a nutshell that is why we need the WBC title as that will lead us to the leading lights and make people sit up and notice. Ashley Theophane in my opinion is one of the most improved fighters around.
I have always held up my hand that mistakes have been made management wise but also so much politricks and things happen behind the scenes that people are not aware of.
As I stated in a previous post a while back and you may have missed but I have had to step back from the active side of managing Ajose due to my other committments and there have been other changes from a promotional and management perspective. Who is to say he has only 10-12v meaningful fights left. Please don't judge any fighter by what you deem conventional. He may have 12 or 30 more fights you never actually know.
