Y'know that Shavers lost to Bob Stallings in his prime, right? And his only wins of note are a green Young (who shoulda beat him in the rematch) and old, old, versions of Norton and Ellis. Hardly better than Joshua.
Younger than 36 y.o Povetkin's version had KTFOed Shavers cold. Older Pov versions?: Shavers via stoppage. Shavers ofc had flaws and a lot but he had more power than Foreman and had a lot of courage there.
Dont remember saying Shavers was better than Joshua. Can you see Povetkin being competitive against Ali ? I cant and dont forget Shavers had Larry Holmes nearly down and out.Povetkin has fought nobody of that calibre
https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...-vs-ernie-shavers.662412/page-6#post-20881110 Ali was running on fumes when he fought Shavers. he had no power left and was miles away from his best. Not only would Povetkin be competitive with that nothing version of Ali, I think he'd beat him too. Yeah Shavers has a big punch. That we know. It's his defining quality, pity he doesn't have a lot of others.
That's because you don't recognise or acknowledge any of the names on the list. Povetkin has an extremely deep resume, one of the best of any heavyweight of the past ten years. And the fact that he's only been beaten twice in that time to the very best of his division both times shows that he was not only a high quality operator but consistent in his performances as well, two things that can't be levelled at Shavers. It's a fair point to make that the type of fight he fights would put him in harm's way of Shavers heavy shots, but inside fighting is Povetkin's bread and butter, and the way he throws shots, tight and crisp from a tucked in guard, he's way more likely to land something fight ending on Shavers than Shavers is to land on him. And frankly, even if Shavers were to shake him up there's no guarantee he finishes him off. Shavers was an awful finisher and let more than one fighter off the hook after having them down on the canvas.
I didnt phrase that very well i meant never in a million years would Povetkin beat Shavers. Those punches Shavers hit Holmes with would knock out your man.And as for Povetkin beating any version of Ali apart from his last two fights is laughable
Your knowledge of boxing is laughable. I'm arguing with an eight year old with a fetish for short boxers with polished heads here
I have forgotten more about boxing then you will ever know. Your opinion of me doesnt bother me at all because if you judge people as you judge boxers your judgement is very flawed.Any way take care and be safe i no longer wish to converse with you as your mind is made up and no matter what i say you will never change your mind.Final words are you looking forward to seeing Whyte knocking out your overrated man?
That explains a lot. Maybe try remembering some of that inexhaustible wealth of knowledge you sadly forgot and you might come across as slightly less of a bumpkin.
Stander was 9-0 when he beat the 12-1-0 Shavers. They were both green prospects and nothing more. That is an asinine argument considering Shavers developed into a world class fighter (though always flawed) subsequently and Stander basically fell off a cliff career wise after Frazier wrecked him. I think you know this too. For the record I favour Povetkin by late rounds stoppage but still give Shavers a genuine punchers chance. Povetkin is the better technician and has some decent pop himself so that’s enough to make him a warm favourite to me.
