First MJ, now Alexis. A true gentleman and great fighter, I hope they seriously investigate the causes.R.I.P Alexis.
This is really sad. This guy was a real inspiration and seemed so much like a nice man (see the Latin Legends + Legendary Nights). It is really sad and I wonder why he did that. He was still young. R.I.P.
Mine as well. Alexis was my dad's favorite fighter, so I watched him all the time as a kid. In other words, he's the reason I got into boxing. R.I.P
I personally think it's been set up to look like a suicide, as Arguello had political enemies and there were rumblings that the election that made him mayor was rigged. I just can't believe that someone who'd gotten their life on track and had everything going for him would do something like this out of the blue. He just got elected last fall. Regardless of the circumstances, I'm gutted and hope Alexis rests in peace. He was truly one of the great men of the sport.
I will always remember that I learned of it here first. Like when I heard of my uncle's death through my pastor so many years ago. That's how it feels, a beloved figure is gone. I can't believe it. Rest in peace.
A truly great fighter, who won multiple titles, when there were less to win, and yet still he never rushed up to another weight and successfully defended them all. A man who's fighting spirit was also shown in his affection for his country of birth. A very sad day for Boxing and even sadder for the people of Nicaragua and his family.
Got home from work after a shitty day today and this is the first bit of news I see, talk about making a bad day worse. I`ll have me a glass of whiskey in your honour champ and may you rest in peace in that squared circle up in the sky. You epitomized the meaning of the word class and sportsmanship, a real credit to the sport you were both as a combatant and human being. I`ll never forget how after he had stopped Ray Mancini he went over to console the tearful Ray in his corner who felt he had let his father down in his bid to win the title for him. I don`t recall the exact words he said to him but it was something along the lines of he had nothing to be ashamed of as he fought gallantly and gave it his all, and that he would one day become champ as well and then he gave him a hug to console him. I always thought and still do think that that was one of the most heartfelt moments I have seen in any sport let alone boxing, goes to show you the man was truly one of a kind.
