Love Arguello but Whitaker's style was all wrong for him, i can see Alexis maybe scoring a knockdown if Sweet Pea gets careless and gets caught off balance but even that would be a long shot, Whitaker would be too mobile, too fast and too slick for El Flaco and would win by clear cut decision.
Bad style matchup for Arguello, I'd think. Pea's a hard target to get a read on, and even a puncher as explosive as Arguello probably won't be taking out Whitaker with one big shot. I'd favor Pea on points.
Pernell by points, at least in a 12 rounder, 15 rounds, wouldn't shock me if Alexis stopped Pernell, who didn't have the greatest chin.
Whitaker uses his movement, defense and quick hands to pretty much dominate Arguello. Whitaker is the worse possible match up I can think of for Arguello who struggled with good movers who also had good defense.
Arguello by KO over 15. Whitaker takes a body beating and finally gets caught and taken out violently.

A shopworn and coke-ravaged Whitaker had a strong enough chin to finish against Felix Trinidad, who was bigger, stronger and harder-hitting than Arguello. Felix was among the most feared bangers in boxing at the time. If Pernell can take those cannons at that stage, he could take Arguello's in his prime years. Whitaker by UD.
