They where checking largely based on damage caused by the first punch Provodnikov landed, his eye immediately began to swell, Algieri then had to fight a further 11 rounds with the eye increasing getting worse, I wouldn't have been surprised if some doctors stopped the fight because of that Eye but I guess they felt he was still holding his own and winning some rounds that they should let it continue.
Was only joking, I get the point you are making but the way boxing scoring is a close round and a clear round are still scored the same, most of the damage caused to Algieri was done in the first round any other punches that landed on that side of the face whether glancing or clean I'm sure hurt and added further damage, but he fought though the pain and outworked and out landed Provodnikov. He wasn't blessed with Procodnikovs natural power, but if a guy who throws 100 punches a round hit that hard he would be a scary boxer to fight.
So let me get this straight.. If a guy who isn't a big puncher fights a guy who is a big puncher, the non big puncher can't win unless he becomes a big puncher? Again, I scored the fight for Provodnikov, so "watching amateur tournaments" and asking me if counting total punches or pitty pat punches in and of themselves wins rounds is nonsense. You are the one who is saying guys aren't worth watching unless they have the ability to hurt their opponent. I'm saying their is more than 1 way to skin a cat, and that different styles and attributes make the sport fun and interesting and offers different challenges. Let's revisit, shall we? No one said someone should not be should not be allowed to box professionally just because they can't break an egg. But, in this case, he did not do enough to win the fight, imo.

I thought Algieri won 8-4. had to give Ruslan the 1st and 12th and cant remember 2 of the rounds i scored for him but even with the knockdowns Algieri impressed fighting off the back foot whilst making Roach a crybaby in the process
