    What in the world made an old-school guy like Ali suddenly start weightlifting so late in his career for this pivotal match?

    In the recent "Watching Rocky II with Ali" thread, Ali is quoted--in 1979 and thus 4 years after Manila--remarking on Rocky Balboa's weight work as the worst thing a boxer can do.

    Did Ali finally see the light on weight training? Was the training for Manila an anomaly?
