That's what am saying his putting everything into fighters that are never gonna be World level yarde can win all the trash titles in the world but his not getting given a world title like other fighters have the top guys are not going anywhere unless some how Frank works his magic on the wbo to get kovalev stripped unless he can do that the only thing waiting for yarde is bad beat down or getting brutally knocked out
Come on mate, I generally like reading your posts but you don’t half talk some nonsense sometimes when it’s to do with Warren. Liam Smith is a European level fighter who thanks to frank and his connections with the WBO achieved the status of a former world champion and soon to be challenger for the title again. The first time round, Frank manoeuvred him to an easy title shot on home soil against a nobody after Smith has beaten nobody of note. That allowed him to get the Canelo pay day and the chance to fight in front of 50k people in one of the greatest sporting arenas in the world live on HBO. After that, Frank put him in with another euro level fighter in Williams arranged it for the WBO interim/final eliminator for the same title - after winning it Smith probably would have got the Cotto fight ahead of Ali if he hadn’t fcuked the weight. He’s now secured Smith the Ali fight with no delay probably for a good purse, and better then what he could have paid him if he was to somehow win a purse bid with only 25% of the pie to negotiate with. Smith has nothing to complain about with frank and I guess that’s the reason why he stayed and didn’t join his Bros with Eddie. As for Skeete, without getting him to a mandatory there’s not much you can do with him at 147. At world level Thurman has 2 belts and he obviously isn’t going to get that fight. Horn refused him and went for Corcoran. Again, Bradley seems happy to go to Spain, so I can only assume they offered a good purse.
Smith would have a better chance having the fight at home with the scores cards because I really don't rate Smith at world level and this will be his best opponent apart from Canelo imo get the fight at home better chance of winning then cash out in a big fight over there Frank always says he likes home advantage unless this is the cash out that's imo
I get what your saying about the home advantage thing but you have to be realistic - there is no feasible way that frank can beat Goldenboy backed by HBO in a purse bid when he’s only got 25% of the purse on his side. That would take a ridiculous amount of money which would probably leave Smith with a very low purse. Your also assuming that Smith isn’t happy to fight in the states with the purse that he’s getting.
It's probably not the belt his going for it's the money then I don't think his gonna get the win unless Ali folds like he did against Vargas but if moving has helped his durability then Smith loses they like flashy stuff better over there well at least he will get a better payday lol
Yes, mate he’s probably told frank to just get him the most money he can. I don’t see him winning either.
Team Smith are betting on him been weak mentally when under pressure that might be the case or the Vargas fight could have been a bad camp had trouble making weight or just an off night it does happen and imo cotto was shot but another case maby Ali made him look more shot then he was I was really surprised how good Ali looked against cotto but I still wonder if he will fold under pressure will not know till he fights a top 10 guy
TBH it's not worst situation for smith if purse bid only 25percent Ali not biggest name .he gets fight states earns a few quid has a actual chance of winning unlike the canelo fight and it did wonders for bjs taking a punt fighting lenuieiux over ther he is far more talked about got great payday etc much more marketable to American stations etc Obs this fight isn't as big as bjs vs Lemieux or has great names in division but could lead Charlie fighter Brook fight diff type of opportunity for him. IMO 50 50 fight whoever wins weakest champ at weight if was Brook be pestering eh get the winner
It was still a very close fight with Cotto, he showed flashes of quality and hurt Cotto a few times...but Cotto was long past his best, his speed and timing weren’t on point at all but he still took him v close. Ali took a few rounds off in that fight, but the thing with Smith is he’ll be competitive every single round. He will just keep putting pressure on. He’s bigger and stronger than Ali. He’s going over there to win the belt, money is secondary. Smith is all heart.
I agree Smith reminds me of good Glasgow street fighters I have seen were it's pride first and making money comes secondly. Having spent a fair bit of time in Liverpool over the years I have found the people very like the Glaswegians so I am sure Liam Smith is the Scouse version but happens to be a talented boxer. In fact remember an interview with his mum saying he was always the one in trouble in the streets he would fight anyone. I think as a boxer he does the fundamentals very well and u loved in the Canelo fight how he wasn't in awe, handled pressure brilliantly just wasn't good enough, but that was against Canelo !
Smith is really slow and one paced and imo his a better version of angulo that's it but it should be a good fight
Agreed bud. I’ve always found that scousers, Glaswegians and geordies are all pretty much cut from the same clothe. True about the Canelo fight. Wasn’t overawed at all, was simply beaten by an elite fighter. No shame in that.
Well, as much as we disagree on it, it’s got us all talking about it and that’s always a good thing mate.
Don't be so niave bud this fight was always going to take place is America as HBO have an interest in Ali, plus it's on with the free to air rerun of Canelo/GGG so it's is great exposure for Liam Smith across the pond. Shame it's not in a better NY venue, but the garden is taken that night with Loma...which I will be at
