I think he is just reacting to Canelo's threat to take back that date. Purely an ego thing. With that said Mayweather has done a lot to make those dates (May/Sept) profitable for boxing, the networks, Vegas, and himself. So, it's understandable that he would react to Canelo's and Oscar's ploy. To "take back" the Sept date they probably have the rematch planned.

Floyd should focus on making the best fights possible for his last 2 outings and not on keeping these dates. He's beaten all the top Latino fighters anyway (including these two). It's time to branch out and do something different.

The fight with Manny on ANY date is a great option. But, I doubt it's as easy as picking up the phone and saying let's do this. It's proven to be a difficult fight to make with the egos involved.

In the meantime, take the act across the pond and make a Khan fight (if he can get past Guerrero). I think Khan could do a bit more to earn that fight. But, over there it will do extremely well, regardless. And it should do pretty good on US PPV, as well.

 

SMH at these clowns still discussing this as if it's a distinct possibility. They're not doing two separate PPVs on the same date. That would be incredibly stupid.

 

Yeah Mayweather's ego is to great to just give up on the date but I wonder what Showtime will do. There not going to like Mayweather trying to go against Cotto-Canelo at all

 

I've always felt like he would because thats a 50 million dolla check he can cash at any moment. he can cash it 2016 if he wants because ppl will still watch and it will still do 2-3 mil buys

It doesnt matter. Mayweather did crap numbers till he fought DLH. When the boxing world wants something, they will pay for it. the fight does 1-1.5 buys for sure

 

Not many left to fight so i think it will happen but if it doesnt happen May 2015 then he wont win any PPV battle with Cotto-Canelo

a canelo/cotto ppv will sell very very well.

I think only pac/floyd would beat it at this point. Casuals would tune-in in droves

There banking on it doing good numbers because its the fight ppl want to see!! When that happens it does good numbers.

Did manny not run from drug testing & 40 million? only , to come back with fight for charity fools?

 

And Mexico-PR is the most popular rivalry in boxing, and on a date where Hispanics are celebrated?? The taking back of that date for boxing would become a celebration of it's own, people may support the fight for that reason alone, and then you get the hardcore numbers on top of it, it really could be something great if promoted right.
