At the motorpoint arena in sheffied on april 27 http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2013/feb/27/amir-khan-payday-julio-diaz-sheffield **** fight. Does nothing for khans resume but allow opportunity to develop and implement his 'transformation' further under Hunter
Tbh the CHAMP at 140 is fighting a fighter Khan already beat. I was watching Julio Diaz fight the other night.. his punches tend to be like pistons lol he throws the right and then left.... works the body good. Khan whenever he fights in the UK goes off gameplan. Julio sounds like a good dude. This is his opportunity to shine. Khan needs to impress and forget about the fans and crowd. Julio is taller and bigger than Amir. None of that reach advantage for Khan this time. Plus Julio has boxed more rounds with a greater KO percentage.
After the gauntlet Khan ran, I can understand a rebuilding fight or two. This is number two. Make a little cash and work on some things. But after this, step up.
He's got time on his side. It's prob using this fight to try new stuff + Diaz is decent and won't just come to loose.
Khan has fought Kotelnik, Malginaggi, Judah, Maidana, Peterson and Garcia. All of these guys are either present champs or still very much in the mix. I'm fine with him taking two easy fights after that run and the KO loss. While guys like Brook his age and almost same number of fights developed their base and are only about to start fighting at the world level. Garcia is defending against old Judah after defending his title against old Morales. Maidana just fought some bum with 13 wins and 3 losses. Seems like there is a separate standard for Khan. Khan should win without real issues but Daiz is not to be taken lightly.
I was dismissive at first but just checked and found that Diaz scored a draw with Shawn Porter in his last bout. Solid opponent
This is nothing but an understandable safe return fight in England after two years of fighting in America. Hopefully after this fight he will go for someone worth tuning in for.
I actually thought Julio Diaz looked pretty good in his draw with undefeated Shawn Porter. But I guess that says more about Porter than Diaz. Khan should win this HANDILY.
