From talk SPORT yesterday: Amir Khan has told talkSPORT he's aiming to unify the light-welterweight division and then end Floyd Mayweather's unbeaten run - all within the next 12 months. Khan will defend his WBA light-welterweight title against Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas on December 11. But the 23-year-old admits he already has one eye on stepping up a weight division to take on pound-for-pound king Mayweather. “ My ambition is to fight someone like Mayweather in the future because pound for pound he's the one of the best fighters ” Amir Khan He told Hawskbee and Jacobs: "My whole focus is on Maidana. But for the future every fighter needs ambitions and my ambition is to fight someone like Mayweather in the future because pound-for-pound he's one of the best fighters, alongside Manny Pacquiao. "I can't fight Manny because we train together, we've got the same trainers and everything, but someone like Floyd Mayweather in the next 12 months I think I'll be ready for him because I'm getting older, I'm getting mature, I'm learning, I'm getting more experience. "And hopefully by unifying this division 140lbs I want to move up to 147 and it will be an ideal fight for me." Khan admits he will have to be smart to overcome big-hitting Maidana, who has lost just once in 30 fights and boasts 27 KO's. “He’s a big puncher. He walks forward, a pressure fighter, very little skill but I think he’s just more about power - throwing the big bombs and throwing a lot of looping shots," added Khan. “I’ll have to be careful, I’ll have to be one step in front of him every time and just be smart about everything.”

"I think that they are scared of me," Maidana said of Khan in August, referring to the champion and his trainer, Freddie Roach. "I really want to face Amir Khan, not only because I want him, but he has the other portion of the WBA title. And I want to be the absolute champion. I don't want to be called the interim champion any longer. On the other hand, Amir Khan is a hypocrite," said Maidana. "Because he says one thing in front of the camera. Like, that's when he'll say that he badly wants to face Marcos Rene Maidana," said Maidana. "But then, when it comes to being behind closed doors, and when he's talking to our promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, he says that he wants to stay away from Marcos Rene Maidana."
