I agree that this would have been ideal for him before he grabbed a world title and became recognized across the pond. But seeing as though he doesn't have a trainer like a Alexander does Cunningham, or Floyd did Roger, it's pretty hard for him to do that now. Roach has a big stable of other fighters, and he can't really provide Khan that sort of attention, even if Khan was to move to L.A.
That was a most awful decision to have these two take off their shirts for promo purposes.THEY look terrible!atsch
Yeah, Freddie can't really offer that, but I strongly believe that is what he needs. Someone to work with him day in day out. If I had to plot Khan's career from the point of view of making him compete at the highest level possible and forgetting all financial elements, when he lost to Prescott and went to work with Freddie, I would of had him go off the radar the whole of 2009 and most of 2010, start from scratch, still fighting but on low key undercard bouts, 8-10 or so of them, against decent opposition. In that time really nailing down his technical skills, and then coming for a world title fight. It's obvious why it didn't go like that, but it would of been better for him in the long run I believe, nor am I saying that through the route he did take he didn't learn or develop, which he did immensely, it's more that I would have much rather he spent a lot longer on developing a solid foundation
Ha ha, yeah I bet when Katie Price is sucking his todger in the hot tub in his mansion after sparring with Manny P he regrets not disappearing off the radar for the last 2 years... :yep
And with that, his marketability and relevance would have gone down the toilet. People would have mocked him for being that hype-job who was blown out in 54 seconds by a nobody, and went into obscurity fighting no-names on undercards. I think the path he chose since that defeat has been the right one. He needed to bounce back immediately to maintain whatever respect he had left, and thats what he did. In less than 12 months he went overseas, grabbed a new trainer, had his first confidence-builder, fought an experienced legend and beat a solid world-champ. This was during a time where nobody gave him a hope in hell of doing anything meaningful. Bar 2010, where he had a slow year, you really couldnt have asked more from him. What youre suggesting developing a solid foundation etc sounds all well and good, but that ship sailed a loooooong time ago. He should have been doing that since before the Prescott disaster. The poor sod learned very little in his first 18 or so fights, and because of that, hes been forced to learn quick under Roach, and be rushed into fights sooner than whats ideal. I, personally, would have loved for him to take the route you suggested. But he wasnt in the position to do that. They do seem to be on the right track for 2011. Hopefully they do fight 3 times like they said theyre going to.
