I agree with all that. He was obviously a disgusting human being but hopefully we can keep that side out of the thread. Purely focused on his boxing skills and some of what he was showing in sparring there.
I haven't watched as much of Valero as I would've liked. Any fights other than DeMarco, Pitalua and Mosquera any of you would recommend? Or are they the only ones out there?
'They're the only men out there' (that didn't crumble in a heap inside a round). Thats pretty much all we got to go on + this great evidence from inside the gym.
Really? That's shite. I thought at least, at least some of his Japanese exploits would be in circulation somewhere.
its really ****ed when the trainer in the first vid says about his wife and kid brought him down to earth.
That'll do me fine. I'd like to see more of him than just three fights, even if it's against overmatched oppostion.
Tagging this for future use. I'm realy in 2 minds about this guy. A very vicious person in and out of the ring (is a Duran comparison wrong to use?), and a very good prospect. But he was a wife beating, communist scumbag at the end of the day. Still, i enjoyed him in the ring while he was there.
Remember watching this not too long after he died. Was and still am a huge Valero fan and the wasted potential makes me extremely gutted :-( (as well as the death/murder thing too of course)
I remember watching the DeMarco fight and being very impressed. He was so much more than just a crude banger. That fight was a platform onto bigger fights against marquee names. What happened next was a terrible tragedy.
A good video that, keeping his personal life out of this... He's probably the biggest "what if" of our generation, a lot of people underrate him thinking he was a one dimensional brawler who relied on power and would struggle against the first fighter he couldn't KO. Now he wasn't the most skilled fighter ever to have lived but he was far from one dimensional as that video proved. It's a shame we never got to see him forfill his potential, he'd of won more world titles no doubt, would he have been special? That's one thing we'll never know
