It is not bizarre-Bruno had a good jab when deployed adequately-like prime Foreman-but that does not mean that he was more skilled than Cooper overall. I do not think there was a massive difference between them though, the main istinction being size & strength.
I cannot tell what you meant to say by "Typical weak skill?"

Smith did not have better defensive skill than Wlad, not even close.
Wlad was better at avoiding talking shots-at least after early losses-& part of it was he eventually clinched too much.
Like Bonehugger also got away with against Tyson.
The fact that he could hit like a truck-like Wlad-is not typically what is meant by "skill"-though some name it so-it is more a raw ability.

At his best he was a World Class fighter, largley due to his power.
But he was not remotely in Wlad's class, or that of the very best fighters he lost to.
He finished with a 44-17-1 record, 10 losses by KO.

He seems like a fine man. From Wikipedia:

In 1995, Smith helped establish the North Carolina Boxing Commission. He served as its first chairman.[1]

Life after boxing
Smith became an ordained minister in 1996[1] and dedicated his life to helping young people stay clear of crime and drugs. Three years later, he retired from boxing.[1]

In 2004 Smith started the non-profit organization Champion For Kids Inc. to provide scholarships to high school students.

Smith began working as a recruiter and the Director of Intramural Athletics for Sandhills Community College in June 2005.

He now works for the Working Families Party in New York City.[citation needed] He now lives in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.

Deeply committed to helping impoverished fighters, Smith was a guest at the Ring 10 Veterans Boxing Foundation 2nd Annual Fundraiser in 2012 where he expressed his support of initiatives to better provide for those in need.[4]

Smith is currently working with organizers to establish the Legends of Boxing Hall of fame in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.[5]

I can see you are into James Smith's carrier and life but unfortunately my opinion about James' and Bruno's skill. is very
different. I think you deserve a longer answer but I'am too lazy.Sorry...
