congrats to jermaine... he deserves a break finally after years on the downslide. Soliman might have been dealing with a physical problem, but jermaine had to overcome physical, mental and legal distractions himself. Clearly Taylor's not the fighter he used to be. Taylor should probably defend against a guy like martin murray next...or a darrin barker. just like sergio did when he was considered #3 pfp. i agree that he should definitely look at retirement and what options are available to him.
No, Taylor is not the new champion, he needs to fight Golovkin for the "REAL" championship but he is chicken fecal matter.....................
Darren Barker's left the field, but I take the point - that's the kinda level Jermaine should be looking at. Murray's likely to fight GGG in Monacco next year since he's now with Golden Gloves, the SA promoter who does Golovkins Monte Carlo gigs. Taylor - Golovkin is extremely unlikely; as BI said last night 'I want whoever Al Haymon wants'. Expect Quillin or Jacobs (hopefully these two will have a fight off first to determine who gets the shot). HNN is, of course, the mando, but I'm not really expecting him to get much of a look in cos' there's too big a chance of him upsetting the apple cart. All in all, whilst I think Jermaine could still have a reasonable run at 160 I really do think he needs to hang 'em up.
The guy has barely fought in the last few years, he went into last nights fight with a 1969 Lada Riva level of rust. Being active(assuming he doesnt go to prison) might actually knock off that rust and get him back in the groove
do you worry about the club fighters with 20 losses against undefeated opponents or just the world ranked guys with 3 or 4 losses?
GGG needs to drop that worthless crap of a belt he has ...hes not even the only WBA champ at 160 :rofl
Funnily enough FMJ isn't the only WBA champ at 154 either.:rofl Perhaps the 'regular' titlists in both divisions should fight the super champs? Just saying. And why would GGG want to drop his strap? What, so he can go after Taylor? His next fight is for the WBC mando slot ffs, and it's entirely possible that he might get a shot at the WBO title now Quillin's no longer sitting on it.
Soliman obviously was hurt coming into the fight (he admitted as much). This fight never should have happened, let alone for a ****ing title. But hey, that’s boxing. Taylor, I guess to his credit being 36 with so much inactivity, looked the same as he always does: tentative, effective in spurts, long spurts of throwing nothing, with seemingly no particular gameplan or intelligent approach to the fight. He still has his athleticism, can throw a good jab, and has a decent right hand, and is fairly composed in there, but he just doesn’t have whatever X factor it is that makes a really effective "fighter", and at his age and place in his career, he never will. Very frustrating to watch, like Chad Dawson at his worst. Still, kudos to him for coming back from the devastating Abraham KO to win a strap. He should be able to make some more money until he loses the first time he fights a legit guy with a pulse.
im surprised how little people are talking about the fact that whats next for him is likely a lengthy prison sentence. i mean he shot someone. his career has got to be over.
It Arkansas...If you can prove someone is on your property without your permission or acting in a threatening manner, you can pretty much torture the guy with Chinese weaponary and get off. I wouldnt be surprised if he gets off lightly. Also, its his cousin, so I can imagine him getting a chunk of Jermaines purse last night and not co-operating with the investigation. We'll see I suppose.
Its not just Golovkin. Plenty of middleweights right now can crack an egg or two. He might not get stretched out but a sustained beating from the liked of Ndam is realistic. Everything points to a bad loss at the end of Jermains career.
I take it you've never been to Arkansas. On a different note. He looked much better the second half than the first. It he can stay healthy and fight often maybe he can hold the belt a few fights.
Always liked Jermaine and I'm happy for him, but what exactly did that fight prove? That he could beat a 1-legged fighter? How many middleweight champions is that now, 4 or 5? Hopefully he can make a few bucks and get out without getting hurt. Any please stay away from GGG
