He's more technically gifted and sound than Chad Dawson, I'm pretty sure many would not disagree with this. Great striking (Yes mma striking is different) but his speed is just incredible, great power and has great reflexes.
But he's not a boxer. I'm not going to deny if he would have focused exclusively on boxing he would have been a world champion because he is technically very gifted but he's a trained martial artist not a boxer. You can't go from martial arts to boxing.

Steven Segal is a great Aikidoka and is pretty wicked in his martial knowledge. But,Silva and them UFC guys cant take a sustained beating. They fight for 3 rounds and that's it. They need to use legs and elbows because they cant really cut it in the science of fist fighting.
Riiiight, Chael "laying" on him was domination. As soon as he didn't have his crotch pressed up against Silva, he was ****ed.
That was 14 years ago. He has improved so dramatically since then. He beats Chad imo. Anderson's speed/reflexes/heart/chin/power is just something to marvel at.
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=152826&cat=boxer He was a boxer first. Its obvious he had to go to MMA because he could not compete
So would countless other athletes, simply based on natural talent and dedication. Silva hasn't shown me any unique aptitudes that would translate exceptionally well into boxing other than reflexes and some natural hand-speed. In no way is he more technically disciplined than Chad Dawson. That is absurd.
