Kenny Anderson believes George Groves has bitten off way more than he can chew. The undefeated Scot was called in to challenge the Commonwealth super-middleweight champion on the Best of Enemies bill, live on Sky Box Office and in 3D. Anderson, who won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games has won all 12 professional contests to date, and has been sparring with none other than Carl Froch in the run-up. He has also shared ring-time with Groves in the past and believes Groves and trainer Adam Booth are in for a rude awakening come November 13. "I wasn't fit and I hadn't fought in a while but I still did really well," Anderson told The Herald. "I don't know what their mindset is wanting to fight me, because they barely even saw a glimpse of my abilities and I handled their laddie all right. It's going to be a massacre. I am surprised. "And it's not just the underestimation of me, it's the over-estimation of George Groves. I've had problems, and I appreciate the opportunity. I'm going to grasp it with both hands." Overlooked Anderson was one of two men Hayemaker Promotions tried to lure at late notice last week when Groves' original defence was cancelled due to James Obede Toney's eye trouble. The offer came just 48 hours before the fight but the 27-year-old, already in training for a British title eliminator with Tony Quigley, wasted no time in accepting a second offer to be part of the David Haye-Audley Harrison show. And he is more than ready to gatecrash the party. "I've been out of the public eye and been overlooked," he said. "But that's good, because they're not going to see me coming. People are going to realise what I'm all about. "George gets a massive amount of press and credibility because he's buddies with David Haye. He's not done anything, as an amateur or a pro, to merit the position he's in. Everybody's going to find that out." This fight is not only for the Commonwealth title but is also an eliminator for the British belt, which Paul Smith will defend against James DeGale in December. All the talk in the domestic super-middleweight division is of Groves and his old rival, but Anderson believes he might just be the man to mess up their rivalry - and their careers. "I'm going to be the Steve Collins who messed up Eubank and Benn," he said. "I'm not saying for a minute (DeGale and Groves) are anything on Eubank and Benn, but it's the same situation. Looking toward to this, I'm impressed with kenny for taking the fight. Groves has to remember to box, I can see kenny winning a brawl if it goes that way
don't think kenny has looked like he has settled well into the pro ranks and on the occasions i've seen him he has not looked good. maybe this will be the turning point for him but i think groves will force a stoppage in the late rounds
Groves has also been sparring with Froch - he had to take a knee too! Wonder who Froch fancies for this one...
this the same kid who struggled like **** with patrick mendy before he won prizefighter. ive never seem him box but hear he's pretty handy. good move from groves imo, looking foward to this fight
