a lt of sportsmen refer to themselves as businessmen but in reality they aren't are they. very rarely do we come across a fighter that understands the fundamentals of marketing at least (Hatton/ De La Hoya/ Mayweather.....). there are probably a whole bunch of reasons for the fights not happening when they should have. Calzaghe being high risk-low reward, Joe's beloved 0, money, etc etc. Just a poor era for him to be around but he did his job everytime he needed to. I ask a more open questio... Who should he have fought to earn his shot 6 or so years earlier?

i cant think of one fighter who has established himself in the US as a legitimate champion who didnt have a genuine challenege from a fighter from another division because they had something he wanted - or vise versa.

it wasnt a "bad era" for sven ottke, and joe isn't as bad as he is. but you get the picture.

to all you brits - its not ****ing FATE.

we put all our major fights on at american time and we stay up til stupid o'clock in the morning to suit you guys... even when it's not involving an american. plus we always have to fight over there because we have to establish ourselves in the states??? what a cop out. hatton, Lewis, hamed etc all established in the states but still had to fight there. yet our willingness to travel is always questioned. i'm not bitter about it. just trying to say that we dont alwas get a fair shake of the stick. Lets have all our across the pond fights in antartica from now on... nice and neutral hahaha

Joe did not go to the olympics and win a medal so his career was not just placed in front of him he had to start from the ground up beating nobodies for the chance to get the bigger fight

Calzaghe is a ATG!!?? Calzaghe bigger than Leonard,Hearns??

This is why Calzaghe is so overrated because of comments like this

He just answered the questions based on how he feels...you can tell he's a huge Roy Jones fan, too. That would factor into his comments. Everyone who knows anyting knows that Joe would have got Griffined had he fought prime Roy.

Calzaghe's one of the best British fighters ever.. So I would expect him to be an ATG..

What people like you don't understand is that consistency is a way to greatness too, not just wins over ATG's.

First of all, Eubank was still a good enough fighter to jump two weightclasses and look better against Thompson than David Haye. Calzaghe won the title from a true champion the way it should be won.

He defended it for more than a decade. Never underperforming, never losing a fight he should have won. Most ATG's have their lesser nights, upset losses, Calzaghe always delivered. That is a great achievement. Calzaghe didn'tlose a boxing match since age 17, how many athletes in any sport come close to that?

Ofcourse you would Dirrell:lol: who would not beat a fighter who is retired now! But maybe he should prove something first, and then talk!
