One of the most naturally talented in boxing right now, yet if you take a look, the signs are not good. Being inactive for over a year has dropped him out of the rankings, and his next opponent is not going to move him toward a mandatory spot. He's not going to get a voluntary to face him as it's huge risk even for ward. Dirrell, even if all goes to plan, won't win a title until he's over 30, and as a speed and reflex fighter, he won't have longevity past 30 It's a real shame.
He's the 8th greatest SMW of all time. http://boxrec.com/ratings.php?country=&sex=m&division=Super+Middleweight&status=E&SUBMIT=Go
Dawson is multiple time lineal champion@175lb the type of achievement Dirrell could only dream about.
I'm surprised he hasn't/ didn't push for a rematch with either Abraham or Froch. Two winnable fights for him. He was beating Abraham quite easily imo and his fight with Froch was very close.
Not an attractive fight for either of those two, they could do without that potential banana skin at this stages of their career.
I can't say it's tragic. He may have most of the tools needed to compete at the highest level, but his heart is not in it. Some people can and most can't.
Full agreement, Abraham will or would avoid him like the plague and Froch has no reason to fight him with potential Ward, Kessler and Bute fights but I thought Dirrell would have been mouthing off for the chance to fight either man. I find it surprising that he's been silent and inactive, whilst Abraham is now a form of world champion. I think Dirrells career will be that of a wasted one.
It is Ward. He is scared of Ward, and don't think he can beat him. This has been proven in tennis... where a player will lose a match if they know they will face a person they cannot beat in the next match. So in order for them not to 'really' lose, they would rather lose by themselves in a match before. In psychology this is very well-known phenomenon called 'handicapping', and many people do it in our daily lives. But it sure has ****ed up Dirrell's carreer a lot...
He wasted his career himself and ****ed it up. He should have sticked to fat Gary (Doctor Shaw-High) or Haymon.
