Dirrell certainly deserves another shot. He created the blueprint for beating Super 6 favorite Abraham - which Froch benefited from enormously. And he beat Froch, no matter what the idiot judges thought. If he's a fraud and fights Bute or Kessler he'll get KTFO and that will be that. If he's the real thing, he'll win - or at least give a very respectable performance- and everyone will have to shut the f*ck up. Simple.
Not going to answer the question then? That's what annoys me about people who cry Dirrell won - They can't defend his bull**** or give examples of poorer performances which won titles, probably because there hasn't been one. He disgraced the sport that night. Sure, if you watch a 2 minute highlight clip, you'll see him land plenty of shots but, if the referee had be fair throughout the fight, he'd have DQed Dirrell for holding! He was on his knees more than a crackhead prostitute, he cried like a girl throughout. That isn't a title winning performance.
He beat Froch even with his antics and stood in there with AA which no one expected him to do...Froch used Dirrel's game plan to beat AA, albeit Froch is much tougher and used it to perfection... Had he fought 2 more rounds like he did the previous 10 against AA, this wouldn't be a discussion...But, he didn't and there are questions... IDK if he'll be the same after AA's foul but, his confidence seems to be his biggest problem....Manny Steward could be helpful...
I genuinely think Ruiz, as **** as he was, was a more deserving champion than Dirrell. He was never a coward, regardless of what people think of him. But my point about "being fair throughout the fight", was referring to when the referee took the point. Dirrell continued to spoil yet the referee did nothing, when, by his own standards, he could have DQed him.
Dirrell was scared shitless of Froch, hence the way he fought. The yanks here would have you thinkin pro boxing is scored solely by compubox. Id say he marginally landed more than Froch but end of the day judges score the fight and if they are looking up seeing a guy exceesively holding, falling to the crowd, moaning to the ref then it will never help his cause in them trying to score rounds which are extremely hard to score as it was.
Dirrell (very arguably) won the fight despite all the points you make, that's probably what's more pathetic and you're not even realizing it.
No he didn't. He showed he had the skills to fight very close with Froch (maybe win, by a hair) - and beat Abraham. Froch and Abraham are not the best fighters in the SMW division. Froch is arguably the 3rd/4th best, but there is a loooooooooooooooooooooong dropoff between the 2 best fighters in the SMW division (Ward and Bute) and the rest. Dirrell never showed anything in his life to suggest he can hang with Ward or Bute.
Ruiz was a lot better than most would give credit, and you're right, he is no coward, would fight anyone...I figured he would beat wlad a few years back... But, he constantly complained to the ref and jumped on any opportunity to use the ref to his advantage, imo...That got to me given all of his holding and wrestling...
I realize some people scored it for him and that's fine. If they did, fair enough, but there's a difference between 'winning a fight' and 'winning a world title'. How many of those people who think Dirrell won, which I think is fine, would also say he deserved to win a world title? Is that a sign of how badly that the sport has decreased, that a guy who shows genuine fear and cowardice in the ring should be rewarded with a world title? I'm all for 'hit and not get hit', so don't mention other names of pure boxers, but Dirrell is a different issue entirely. He showed absolutely no heart, spoiled the fight and didn't deserve a world title. If people score it for him, fair enough. Was that a world title winning performance? Not in a million years. I hate the way people act as if it was one sided, too. It was a very close fight on the cards. Given it was close, I don't see any justification for Dirrell being given the nod.
He deserved to win a world title because he (by my card) outpointed the champion in a championship match. Ergo, he won the title, whether his performance was shite or not.
