Just let's get a sense of proportion here. he is good ....just not as great as US fans desperate for some success make him out to be.

Olympic win was good...hard to figure out ward over 3rounds though, stylistic nightmare in the ams.

As for his pro record....a few decent wins, no rematches against guys who probably have him figured out now.....fights once a year, in his home town, with his uncle as ref and his cousins as judges....hardly the mark of a great champion.
Sense of proportion, that's all.

 

Undefeated, Fought every name worth mentioning in the super six tournament and won, fought the best lighheavyweight at the time and took him to the cleaners, Top 3 p4p list on many experts lists and a olympic gold medal.

The guy has literally beaten everyone who holds a title at 168... thats the very definition of cleaning a division out.

 

Oh and I forgot to mention - he is only a part-time boxer who fights once a year in a mickey-mouse division. Dirty head-butting cheat too....hardly what I would call P4P material at all......completely over-rated by US fans.

 

Ward fights in a traditional gypsy bare knuckle style. It works great bare knuckle but its hard to get KOs with boxing gloves in that style

he is good technically but he fights dirty on the inside and his best wins (froch/kessler) are not noteably inside fighters, they tend to box more at range.

take a look at the bika fight where Ward struggled when someone fought him at his own game

Technically one of the best boxers. He really does master the nuances of the sport. The compairison with hopkins is appropriate
