joe would doggy style him, that's how he handles thoes american gangster types, little in out in out,,,,just ask the purse snatcher bernard hopkins, he slapped that ***** around, an tapped that ass
Calzaghe`s speed, stamina & workrate sees him thru in a close points fight, Ward`s ability & technique would serve him well vs most but Calzaghe doesn`t let you use your best weapons as effectively as you normally would. Calzaghe W12 Ward
good argument...but you got the bias the wrong way around calzaghe was a very good fighter, i'll give you that, and i respect his ability but only bias brits can respect his career path
I am, he faced many different styles & some good fighters, he always solved the style, Hopkins being the most difficult but bare in mind this is the same Hopkins that is always mentioned as one of the top 5 of the era & also the same Hopkins that humiliated Kelly Pavlik in his next fight, its funny how Hopkins could be effective vs everyone else but had most trouble with Joe`s style & skills... vice versa is also true but then again, hopkins is as said already, one of the top 5 fighters of the era in most people`s judgement. Calzaghe was a special fighter.
Lets wait 4 years when Ward will still be only 32 and if he is still unbeaten I guarantee people will be singing a different tune. Only Idiots give it to Calzaghe as fact when Ward in only half way through his career.
i'm not discrediting joe's win against hopkins, but what i am discrediting his claim that he is a great fighter because he waited until both jones and hopkins had hit their 40's and been beaten/lost their titles before overcoming a fear of flying to fight them... i think joe was the best candidate around to take on a prime hopkins or jones, but he never did. thats like a 'great' motor racing driver dominating in karts, saying he can beat mario andretti, but not moving up to F1 when he was champion
He certainly could have come to America much earlier in his career, he should have given up that **** WBO belt & contested for one of the majors like the WBC or IBF... that aside, I do respect his career but I don`t make things what they are not, I don`t class him with the Morales & Barrera`s of the world, guys that fought the best from a young age & kept at it til retirement. It`s just annoying that ****s around here act like his career was **** or he never fought anybody, he wasn`t the best of his era but he was a great fighter & deserves respect as such.
I agree he was the best equiped to take a pop at a prime Jones or Hopkins (since the ***s refused to fight each other :-() but apparently Hopkins walked from a Calzaghe fight in his prime because some last minute money demands weren`t met, so this wasn`t all one sided, Hopkins knew Joe was dangerous, he knows his boxing.
well said. he does deserve respect as a fighter, but he will continue to polarise boxing fans because i cant think of any other fighter who wasted his sizeable talent in the name of $$$ it was so good to see ricky hatton leave ****** and do exactly what joe should have done - go to the states and make his defining fights happen - and it was also good to see amir khan do the same thing even though khan gets a lot of stick, people should respect his choice to cross the pond
spot on! Calzaghe was overated! would not have fought unbeaten Ward in America and Ward would not have fought Calzaghe in England! for what its worth Calzaghe by split and controversial decision
welcome to the board gerry :good lets see how ward goes in the next few years first i think its too early to vote on this one
