More directed at the guy who replied. He is a GGG nuthugger who has no base of rational thought when it comes to anyone.

Dawson had won 9-10 rounds easy over Hopkins for the lineal title just the fight before.

But yes, pretty clear he was well past prime looking back, in addition to being an Oscar-like zombie fighting in a division he had not competed at in 7 years.

However, this too is sometimes inconsistent even from those who claim to loathe and completely discredit the draining of a fighter by even a 2 lb catchweight, let alone entire division... Didn't Solis drop down for Gamboa? That win was heavily praised on this site. Not a peep about Solis dropping down a division (probably because they didn't know in the first place, but shhhh, don't tell them).

It's not worthless. It's a fraction of what it would have meant up at 175, sure. But this sort of thing happens all the time. Many of the best ATG's have comparable enough examples.

When it's all said and done the dawson win will always be one of ward's most notable and respected wins regardless of the circumstances.

First of all more people watched that fight and the hype behind the fight was pretty significant.

Ward shined bright and looked like a million bucks plus this is definitely his most watchable fight.

And at the end of the day regardless of his pitfalls and lack of mental strength he dawson still amassed a really good resume littered with hall of famers and notable names. If dude had a little bit more fame and wasn't so unpopular regardless of the loses he would arguably be considered a first ballot hall of famer.

People say that Corrales was drained when he fought Floyd. But he had fought almost all of 1999 and all of 2000 at 130. Then faced Floyd in 2001 at 130. Chico's permanent move to 135 didn't happen until 2003 and he still fought a few fights in between at 130. So Floyd should really deserve full credit for that win. The reason I bring this up is because I realized a lot of people were saying Floyd drained Chico.
