Always take in every factor of a fighters make up when assessing a fight. No point saying, well a mentally healthy and iron willed Golota (it never existed) would destroy Fury because Fury on his night has a massive warriors heart and extremely competitive. Also Golota looked quite stiff sometimes, and he is hittable, a bit square. Fury boxing properly could jab his head off, quicker feet. And with that Golota becomes even more discouraged and has a mental collapse again. But Golota had talent for sure. He was more powerful and put his punches together better than Fury.
He certainly could have used one. Maybe avoid getting injections in his leg just prior to jumping in the ring with Lewis might have helped too! What a bizarre career he had! Talented heavyweight though, he's got to be right up there as one of the best modern heavyweights to not even hold an alphabet trinket!
Him and Povetkin. I don't think either one of them garnered a belt of any sort. And both better than some who did.
Pity the Povetkin - Wilder fight never took place, the fraud could have been exposed a decade or so earlier.
Good point, man - I can't imagine how much Fury would have messed with Golota's head, it would have been absolute chaos pre-fight, during the fight and post-fight.
I know Riddick Bowe fairly well. Bowe had suffered brain damage before the Golota fights. In addition to Bowe's poor dedication to the sport, Bowe was obsessed with Muhammed Ali, and would try and unnecessarily copy him at times. In sparring sessions, he would allow other fighters to hit him as hard as they could like "Your shots can't hurt me! I can take them!". A lot of other boxers did this as well in the past, this mentality came from Muhammed Ali. Most boxers made that mistake with the exception of Lennox Lewis. Bowe before Golota fights would often spar with equilibrium problems with concussion infections from sparring. You look at how Bowe speaks now and his actions just after he retired, its terribly sad.
14.8% percent voted for Fury to lose by knockout (Fury was never officially knocked out). That surprises me considering Fury's fights with Wlad and Wilder. Boxing fans seem to respect and acknowledge Golota lot more than I thought.
Absolute nonsense Golota was one of the better skilled big man of the last 30 years his skills were as good as any of the big Heavyweights. He absolutely battered Bowe who was number 1 Heavyweight at that time from pillar to post and skill wise looked like potential great until he imploded. His weak mentality let him down but skill wise he was up there a very good jab quick hands good combination puncher rolled inside very well for a big man.
Absurdly gun-shy Wladimir and Wilder who is a murderous punchers, but also an extremely inaccurate, plodding finisher with no ring geometry. Wouldn't put my money on Andrew by stoppage, but knockdowns are very much on the table.
I’m off the opinion Fury was at his best against Wlad. That version handles Golota and wins a lopsided 12 round decision. Fury from the second Wilder fight wins by mid-late stoppage in a fairly competitive fight. Fury from the third fight goes through hell though.
bowe was always an incredibly dirty fighter and dumb as a rock. everything about him was always sad and or pathetic.
The idealised version of Golota who somehow does not foul out will give Fury all he can handle. Golota boxed very well with his jab, was fluid with quick hands and tidy in close. And the monstrous workrate should be wrong for Fury, who often likes to coast. I’m not sure if this version of Golota ever existed but if he did, I’d be quietly confident of him pulling off the upset.
