Andy Lee impresses on Stateside return

I like popcorn but I like watching intelligent men trying to defend the indefensible even more.

The double standards on display here sometimes are absolutely amazing...I can only imagine the clamour from certain quarters if Barker had picked Cook as his next opponent. **** fight for Andy Lee stay busy or otherwise, you know it and I know it. Cook is the type of opponent you take after having a very long lay off or are coming off the back of a heavy defeat....Andy Lee is much, much better than that.

 

Actually I would say it was the Brits that are the most biased posters on ESB - actually I think that is generally recognised. :good

Not sure there is much of an Irish "ex-pat" community in the state of OK.

I was also pointing out that Lee wants to step up but cant get a shot - and offered himself as available for the European title but was ignored in favour of a fighter he just beat. Hard to have a pop at a guy in those circumstances.

 

if Barker fought a "Cook" type fighter for the European title then yes I would have a pop at his - actually for any title I would have a pop (see Danny Butler) but if it was third on the bill in a mundane show in Oklaholma then I wouldnt be making much noise.

If you think I am biased just read the article, I hard hide what I think about Cook - but I do it with balance.

 

I haven't got a problem with your view on Andy Lee, and the article is a good one (please don't use the word stanza to describle a round :good ). Its just that everytime Lee is mentioned in whatever context Barker gets dragged into it. You accuse Brit posters of being biased in favour of Barker but in reality he only has one or two fans on this board, RobP being the most vociferous....for the record I would much rather watch Andy Lee (unlike Barker he seems like a top bloke) fight but the standard of opposition has to be up there.

 

Let's just agree to disagree on who is most biased. There was certainly nothing biased or anti-Irish in my original point about Lee.

I'm probably the biggest critic on here of shitty mismatches and soft comeback fights.... in particular those made by Frank Maloney.

I've consistently said that Lee has potential, but taking these safe matches isn't going to help - stick him in for short money or on short notice.

He's not a marquee name that HBO will force a Williams or a Martinez into fighting unfortunately. Being on undercards everywhere isn't going to help - he's got no fixed base like Hatton had in Manchester or even a Munroe in Leicester has.

I think anyone who criticizes Lee for this fight needs to get out more! It was a marking time fight..a chance to get some rounds after the Thiam debacle. I've no problem with it at all, many boxers do it and it's a lot better than just training without a fight coming up.

does anybody really believe that lee will fight williams. what the hells in it for him? fight a dangerous fight against a southpaw that jabs at a weight he previously said hes going away from? dont be daft. lee said it to fire his name out in the mix. he either needs to be patient and take on 3/4 guys in the top 30 or else take a big risk. time is marching on for him

personally i found Andy Lees career to to very frustrating, its very stop and start. Hopefully he can get a meaningful fight next to show if he can mix it with the guys at the top. although the guy he fought may have been a journeyman it sounds as if he did a could job anyway

 

This is pathetic.

It was a fight just to get some rounds under the belt until a better opportunity arises. Opportunities that are not presenting themselves to lee at the moment.

Lee and his management say themselves they want tougher fights, barker, gevor even williams. It just aint happening, simple as that.

Would you rather he sits on his hands and fights nobody for months at a time. Some boxing fans are ****ing pathetic.

i think your post covers his situation, lee is the kind of fighter who needs a chalenge and the big ocasion will bring the best out of him, chavez team don,t want him at least not yet, williams and martinez have no great options except each other, lee's got to go for it before he looses to an unimportant fighter, were his minds on bigger things and the weight hasen.t been done right etc etc.:think

 

Lee's shown he can easily beat B- class fighters like Gibbs, Thiam, etc. He just has to wait for the right opportunity to come along. A fight for the european would be perfect for him as he's not ready for a Williams/Martinez yet.

 

not sure about that Moorser, its a big jump from 3000 at the UL to 10000 at the O2 or 20000 at Thomond.

It would have to be against Macklin to justify that move.

 

you may be right, but in boxing you dont get the opertunitys just when your ready, i think lee is in good enough hands with steward, and though williams is very good, he s only looked good at the lighter weights, steward and lee fancy the job, and i personaly think he can pull it of after one more decent fight.:good
