It isn't enough to just say (for example).....

Dunne beat Cordoba, became an interim champ and consensus top 5 - something which Munroe will never do.

Or......

Dunne chickened out because he knew he would be beaten by Munroe.

There have been plenty of dumb comments on this thread (as could be expected when discussing these two) - but the dumbest must be that a win over Munroe does nothing for Dunne's legacy.

I don't actually think this fight will happen anyway, Dunne needs to move up to feather (for obvious reasons), whilst taking another Euro-level fight is pointless for Munroe, as he will be made mandatory for the WBC any day now.

 

Biggest fear of Dunne taking this is Munroe's stamina against a weight drained Dunne. Dunne will have to work every second in this fight and he likes to take a lot of time off during fights.

 

To be fair the 'Dunne-ites' only seem to be defending their fighter in the face of some pretty inflammatory comments.

 

I agree, why should Dunne compromise himself by fighting at a weight that he is not comfortable at. I remember before the Veronin fight Steve Collins commented that Dunne looked tight at the weight & that fight was at 126! He has been struggling with weight for a long time. If Dunne comes back he has got to move up.

 

Aside from anything else there are pretty big implications for both fighters as regards tv contracts. I doubt Munroe wants to fall out of bed with Sky and the same goes for Dunne and RTE.

Also, Munroe is champion and deserves to have home town advantage as such but whats the point in having in front of 2,000 in Nottingham when you could have it in front of 9,000 in Dublin and make a load more money on it.

If Maloney wants the fight made for early in the new year then I'd knock it back if I was Dunnes team. I'd want at least a tune up after a big loss before taking the fight. If Maloney was willing to make it for sometime round the end of March/start of April and allow time for Dunne to warm up at say the end of January then it would be much more of a goer in my opinion.

dont see how that comment is dumb, as at this stage of his career Dunne wants to be fighting proven world level fighters for decent money as he doesnt have that many fights left (although stay away from the punchers) such as molitor or picking up a belt at feather against cruz, rojas or luevano or alternatively have a big pay day against vasquez or someone of that ilk; he would get KOd but the money in america could be too good to turn down. a win or two and bernard could get these fights. i just think munroe at super bantam doesnt do anything for dunne imo and if what i just said is possible the only dumb thing would be for dunne to box munroe

 

Probably true. Dunne for a moment was very good but his chin is not upto the competition. I doubt Munroe will get that far to be honest but a fight between them both will be great and create alot of fuss on here, which is great.

So what if Cordoba once beat Cab, it means nothing to what Dunne achieved.

I really think Maloney just threw this out there for Dunne's team to reject it. Early 2010 is very early for Dunne, Munroe is already knocking on the door of a title shot & it just doesn't add up... This is a very winnable fight for Dunne. Why put a title fight on hold to face someone who isn't going to get you much more?

I don't see the tv rights being a problem either. Sky can encrypt rte channel for the north and show it to the rest of the UK while RTE show it in the South and close there free stream.

 

Of course it means something, it says a lot about Cordoba's level, which in turn says a lot about Dunne's win over him.

 

Munroe's limited, Dunne's chin is not great, would make a great fight.

 

And Martinez beat Dunne who beat Cordoba who beat Cab. Say's nothing about Martinez really.

 

The difference being Martinez is a limited brawler who has looked terrible in all his fights since his win over Dunne while Cordoba has looked good consistently throughout his career.
