even his fans have to concede this one: its fine to proclaim yourself as PFP1 in the sport. its also fine to dismiss dangerous opponents, because they dont bring enough money to the table;after all, youre a businessman. BUT YOU CANT DO BOTH!YOU CANT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. you can call yourself pfp1 but youre not obliged to prove it against certain dangerous opponents due to it being a 'bad business decision'? WTF IS Wrong with this pIcture?:-( Shane would still be pfp1 with that approach. Fukn annoys me.
thats NOT my point.oscar was dangerous(putting inactivty and age to one side)but he was fought because he brought the biggest payday and exposure.no other reason there will be other opponents dismissed because theyre not 'big names'. thats ok,but shut up about being the best
Floyd is kind of a rerun of the Roy Jones days.Roy even rapped about his glorious skills in bad hip hop tunes. All the while , he also avoided potentially interesting opponents .Thats why when people talk about all time greats , the Roy Jones era is a question mark.No doubt about Billy Conn, Archie Moore, Bob Foster, or Michel Spinks, they pretty much cleaned out their divisions, and when they challenged the heavyweight champ, it was the REAL champ, not some second tier paper champ like Ruiz.Of course to hear Roy tell it, you'd think he beat Jack Dempsey.
Roy may have rapped about his talents and most of us agreed with him but what Mayweather does that pisses everyone off is to ridicule everyone he faces....and doesn't face. He disses great fighters from the past which there really is no need for. The man is a complete *****. He may well wipe the floor with Hatton's ass but Hatton is by far the better man.
WTF is this topic about man??!!! Marnoff is absolutely right, De la Hoya was a serious threat, Hatton is a danger for the "0" of Mayweather And why the bad comment on Roy Jones Jr.: Have you been world champion in 4 different weight classes?? In the title fights Roy Jones Jr. fought he all fought good fighters, otherwise they would not be a world champion in the first place! Mayweather Jr. can fight anybody who he wants, ofcourse he picks the one who will bring the largest paycheck. i'm wrong?
This was my argument for years man. He seems to be doing the right thing now by fighting Hatton. It just pissed me off like you don't understand. So many monkeys just jock him and give him the P4P #1 even though he was fighting guys way past their best days. Hopefully this fight with Hatton will erase all of that.
Do you mean you hope that Mayweather will lose?? or do you hope for a good quality fight? I'm not saying mayweather is the greatest of all time, but he is a excellent fighter with great talent.
None of Floyd's oponnents will ever satisfy the haters b/c Floyd beats the oponnents and the haters love to hate.
The problem with the theory you stated above is that, even if it pleased you that Mayweather fought one of those you listed all the Hatton people would say that (ex. margo) is no threat why dont he fight hatton a real challenge. And this cycle will go on and on. Here's quite a bit of excuses for others to say regardless of who Mayweather fought...... Moselly was old, Margo was nothing but a journeyman, Cotto never beat any big names just beat up on journeymens, Williams one hit wonder that beat up an overrated Margo, Cintron lost to Margo so how is he gonna beat mayweather, Clottey same with Cintron and also lost to Baldo via DQ, and Mayweather ownd Baldo... Anyway you chalk it up somebody's gonna have a problem with who he fights.
Flawed logic. Margarito was seen as a possibility because at the time he was the consensus #1 welterweight in the world. This was when Mayweather moved to welter. DLH was not the best jr.middle. Judah was not the consensus #1 welter when Floyd got him and Castillo was arguably, one of the top guys at lightweight but not THE top guy. Bascially this whole argument is over Mayweather being P4P #1 without having faced a top dog in any of those divisions for years, let alone clean them out. Had he faced Margarito, Johnston, and possibly Harris way back when there would be no arguments today. His fight with Hatton will finally break that cycle. Hatton being the top dog at jr.welter.
