Just watched the fight. AJ can't deal with those fast hands or countering of Ruiz. Ruiz will also continue fighting his fight if he gets knocked down. He did try to jab and move and it didn't work. His chin and stamina won't hold up if he tries to slug it out with Ruiz.
It's possible. But you are making an assumption that all knock downs are equal. Ruiz got up and fought his fight because he wasn't that hurt. AJ was more hurt. When AJ got up against Wlad, he composed himself, got a second wind, and won. It's also possible that AJ knocks Ruiz down and hurts him more, or instead of foolishly charging in and ducking to the level of Ruiz and trading, he uses his reach and sets up a finisher. There's been far worse losses. This didn't scream irreversible to me.
