It depends on what you class as elite and also how important the age 40 is for your debate.
How different is the average person when 39 years and 11 months to when they turn 40?

What is your definition of elite? Is Parker elite?

He didn't manage to beat Usyk but what are the other active fighters that you call elite for him to face?
    The Fury fight fell through

Give me an example of who you are calling the elite fighters and we can see who was active and ready to face him.

We know Usyk who he lost to, so who else?

Wlad was a great fighter. But the comparison is invalid in a different way - AJ always fought the best available opposition when he was the champion, Wilder didn't.

Ortiz at his best was better than Dubois and Ruiz though.

Prime Ortiz was better than the Povetkin who fought Joshua.

I noticed here you wrote Klitschko was at the end of his career at 37, so which current HWs do you think have elite wins, in which fights and against who?

    Highly debatable.
    And when was this "best"?

Who are you comparing them to? And who were these great fighters during that particular time?
Also, I didn´t say that Martin and Ruiz were great fighters.

Yes it could have. It’s a shame Ortiz didn’t fancy it

Ortiz's best win is Charles Martin or Bryant Jennings and he's been dropped or stopped by every puncher he's fought which to be fair is hardly any, including getting KO'd by the biggest can crushing no skill hype job in recent memory twice.

Remember all those ridiculous Ortiz vs Povetkin threads? Povetkin was way better amateur and pro with a way better chin and resume and he would've sparked Ortiz out cold and so would AJ

Jennings. If you think Dubois is better, you don't know boxing. And Ruiz almost lost to a mid forties version.

Jennings win puts him at 36 years of age(and I agree) and 2 years before facing Wilder for the first time.
And sure, the Ruiz fight was close but IMO Ruiz was past his best too. Ruiz had barely fought in the previous 3 years and struggled badly with the corpse of Chris Arreola.

Dubois at this point is certainly more accomplished than Ortiz.

You could say Kayode or Barrett, but they obviously weren't on Jennings' level.

Arreola was coming off setting the Compubox record and lost wide to Ruiz. Arreola had more left than Ortiz, and his competitiveness against Ruiz is way overblown. People only remember the first two rounds.

Ruiz was fat and fairly inactive heading into the Ortiz fight, but Ortiz had no legs left as seen in the Martin fight. It was supposed to be a showcase for Ruiz, but Ortiz was kicking ass when the fight ended.
