Wrong on both counts. And even accepting the official injury line, it isn't a back problem, it's the internal obliques which are deep abdominal muscles, funnily enough on the oblique sides. I'm not playing boxingforum24 up is down commitment bias game again, posting timestamped videos that just get ignored and denied, but if you can be bothered to watch the left hook that Donaire lands a few seconds before Ryan drops, it's clear it hurt him as evidenced by his grimace and the fact he retreated for the rest of the round. FWIW, I think it may be to the actual injury cited, but I think the pressure put on the area by Donaire accelerated the discomfort 3 x fold. Having looked at the medical literature out there regarding this injury, it's not very common but happens in sportsmen who make rotational torso movements so box ticked there.
It's not a back problem. We repeat, it's not a back problem. Repeat again, it's not a back problem. It's the Oblique. Around the waistline area. The same area he grabbed immediately when he went down and then for some reason grabbed his back after, which is odd because it is the waistline injury. He told his corner about it after round 3 that he got caught on the waist. You only tell your corner that if something is not right. I saw a video and heard what he said when he was sitting in the corner talking to his trainer about how he got caught on the waistline. Most fighters have been hit by wicked hooks to the body and go to the corner and not say a thing unless they are feeling the effects of it. i.e broken ribs or arm etc. An injury happened because of Donayris punch and because of the motion of the punch Ryan threw and missed further aggravated the injury and yes because Ryan has a history of back injury pretty much all of the above.I do believe the punch triggered that injury. If you watch after Donaire landed the HOOK. Ryan backed off and did not throw any right hands and was a sitting duck in the corner. Even in round 4 his right hand do not carry the same intensity as before meaning he was feeling some pain in the waistline already and was reluctant to throw it.When he did throw full force it gave out it's when the pain he felt there became too unbearable.
