I rate Mikey very highly but after the Brook fight I just can’t see him beating Spence Spence is a 4-1 favorite I’m excited for this fight I’m curious to see if Mikey can go 12 rounds
I am. However, I am admittedly a biased Mikey Garcia fan and wouldn't place money on it. Mikey is a brilliant boxer with excellent footwork, distance, and timing. Spence is technically very sound, but lacks the speed displayed by Garcia. The path to a Garcia victory does not allow him to take risks. He will have to box with incredible intelligence, utilizing movement and speed. He will need to be careful early to avoid Spence's power, but if he can take him into the later rounds, Mikey can frustrate him into getting a little wild and potentially get the decision.
I am and I am not biased . I am picking Mikey to win as I think spence is to comftorable were he is at . But if Spence stops Mikey .credit to him.
In the "Spence will ruin Mikey" thread, I stopped short of picking him, but did say that he was being sold short. I honestly think it's a toss-up. I think MIkey is the most technically sound boxer in the game today, but he's not just jumping two weight classes. He's doing it and jumping right into it with a proven, undefeated killer at 147. I'm going to go ahead and pick Mikey b/c I came to his defense elsewhere. I honestly think it's a 50-50 fight. If Mikey can avoid the power for 12 and the conditioning holds out with the added weight, I think he can outbox Spence. But that's a tall order. Even if I'm wrong, I'm still a mad Mikey fan. It's risks like this, a fighter daring to be great, that makes more boxing fans.
I am, though I don't have a dog in either race. I just think Garcia has the brains and the stylistic attributes to pull the trick on a very game Spence. If I'm proven wrong then no biggie.
I’m of the opinion that this fight goes along the lines of GGG Brook. A frustrated big man wanting a big fight vs a very talented little guy that wants a big a fight. H2H Mikey is better than Brook but Spence is much much bigger then him I see a 8-9 round stoppage
Spence actually has very fast hands when he throws combinations. Whereas Mikey is not known for his speed.
Don’t have to tell me that. I’ve been seeing several post about garcia having faster hands. I don’t think so.
I think Garcia will do well early but as the rounds go on Spence is going to keep coming and coming and with his size and strength he will wear Garcia down and stop him
Good observation. Some might tend to think the littler guy must be faster. Not necessarily. I think their speed is about even. I just think Mikey is so technically proficient, like no other in the game today. He's not faster than Spence, but he's sharper. Again, I don't know if he can hold out in a 12-round pressure fight with the added weight, and I don't know if he can take a flush shot from a heavy-handed welter, nobody does. I do believe we'll find out, because Spence is too good not to land at least a couple flush shots, even against the best out there. But I do believe that if he can do both of those things, he can outbox - not just Spence, but anyone.
