Spence-Brook was indeed nip and tuck........until the dam broke. Can Mikey take the punches Brook took as Kell boxed and fought on roughly even terms with Errol? Even Kell, big as he is for welterweight, couldn't take it for 12 rounds. I'm trying to think of a fight where Mikey was pushed and roughed up, taken to his physical limits by an opponent who had that capability. Only Salido comes to mind. He was dropped by Mikey multiple times. But just as Salido was starting to crank up the pressure there was that nasty accidental headbutt that broke Mikey's nose. He was given a choice by the ref, Mikey chose not to continue. Reading the forums is a little funny, you see too many guys trying too hard to seem smart by picking the side that would make them look like geniuses the morning after a big fight, if things went exactly as they "knew". Mikey is trying to be great, and I hope more boxers are like him. But what he is trying to do is simply monumental. Those people who say they wouldn't be surprised if Mikey wins, just stop. If you label yourself a boxing fan, and you're saying you won't be surprised if a former featherweight challenges the best welterweight avoided by all the other elite full-blown welterweights in this day, in his first ever welterweight fight........you need to walk away from boxing and just watch another sport.
That also wasn't a prime welterweight brook in there, that was a damaged & drained brook in there, who could barely make welterweight anymore and yoyoed up and back down in weight. Only the true elites can come from feather and compete at welter, it has been done before and mikey has the tools to spring the upset.
I like Mikey but I cannot see him winning this fight, he'll get the worst of it in the exchanges. His skill could make for some exciting moments but as the majority here have already said, picking Mikey ain't the way to bet. I wish more boxers had his guts and nerve though.
if Brook was such a damaged and drained welterweight that suffered easily at the hands of Spence anyway, why would Errol have so much difficulty coaxing his fellow PBC welterweight standouts in the ring and instead have to settle for a not-so-long-ago featherweight opponent? What, did you "see" something they didn't? Sharper than their respective camps now? The proof is in the pudding, always. Reality is not always in black and white, oftentimes it is in levels of gray.........sure Kell had been hit with monster shots by Golovkin, sure he had been having a hard time making '47.......but if these factors were the dominant reason why Errol KO'd him and not because of Spence himself he wouldn't be the "boogeyman" that these welterweights are avoiding and we would have seen Porter, Garcia and Spence call for a shot against him. Do remind me of these times because I don't seem to remember any of this happening.
With all due respect to Brook, he's a quitter. I don't fault him. Health is important, but he's definitely a flawed fighter.
All credit to Mikey G for taking the challenge. It's such a colossal task that it makes me think I've missed something... Got to go with the majority and pick a Spence stoppage. I'll be very surprised if Garcia can either stay away or even stop Spence running him over.
I don't think Garcia is strong enough for very good welters, and Brook prime was a very good welter, strong at the weight. Its gonna be a massive problem for Garcia once the natural welter with good pressure skills in Spence starts to crank it up.I don't think he sees the 12 rounds out by a good margin, regardless of is advantage in skill set
If he does beat him it will make a huge statement in the welter weight division, but I don't think he will. Eventually Spence is going to wear him down in the body, and once that happen. Great foot work and speed that Mickey was talking about during their face-off, will go out the window.
