Fair enough, my argument is more that prime for prime Briggs stacks up fairly well against Green but also considering Adamek is a genuine world class fighter that nearly got beaten in is own patch.
i Know. credit to Adamek the **** can have a war and still come back for more goin to heavyweight and facing bigger punchers that deserves anyones respect win lose or draw.
Good point. The Adamek fight was there for Paul's taking. He had Adamek hurt several times with right hands, and every time he did absolute sweet FA to followup on it. I was literally yelling at the TV when he had him hurt to followup and let his hands go, that's how frustrated I was. He really had noone to blame but himself for losing that first fight. Adamek's face after that fight was a total mess.
I think a prime Briggs would beat Green simply because he's looked better in his performances than Green has. Briggs' MD losses to Adamek are far more respectable than Green's MD loss and DQ to Beyer. Briggs does have a killer instinct, it's just that Adamek has a granite like chin. Many of the shots Briggs landed on him would have put others out. Briggs is a better thinker in the ring who is able to work out his opponent better. He did this after being thoroughly outboxed against Drews, and was also able to get back into the fight against Adamek. Whenever the going gets tough for Green, he finds it very difficult to get into control. Briggs gets my support simply because in his prime he at least chased the contenders and real deals of the division and not the backwash names of yesteyear.
I was doin the same thing, people say it was because Adamek was just too good but watching Paul against jesus ruiz was frustrating as well i was like **** me you have very good hand speed let the combos go but it was just one or 2 punches and stand back again.
Im not sure Briggs didn't fight smart at all he stood dead smack right in Adameks range the whole time, green would of gone in and done more infighting and Adamek was very open to uppercuts which Green delivers very well in close and could of possibly dropped him for some 10-8 rounds, yet i don't think briggs even attempted an uppercut, i think Adamek worked out Briggs wasn't gonna shift gears and stand in perfect range to outland him 4 to 1 punches each exchange.
I was/am a big Briggs fan, but I feel his fights against Adamek tend to get overrated. Briggs fought Adamek at LHW - Adamek has since gone on to CW and now HW, and has looked much better at the latter 2 weights than he did in his last fight at LHW against Dawson. Yes, the Briggs vs Adamek fights were great scraps, they were wars, but I also feel that Adamek was still developing as a boxer and is a much better boxer now than he was then. Briggs also has a very square stance, obviously due to his kickboxing days, that he tends to revert to, hiding behind his gloves and looking for the opportunity to counterpunch. While Briggs is technically better than Green, it was his hunger, heart, will to win and strength that got him to the top. I think once he offloaded a lot of what he'd kept bottled up inside him by writing his book, he found peace within himself and mellowed out, and lost that ruthless drive he had. It was just a damned shame the WBC pissed him about and made him fight so many eliminators before he eventually got to fight for the title.
