These things have happened throughout the ages. Difference being that by fighting more regularly it's not these nights that stand out. Me, I'm just not that into modern boxing, there's a lot of it that goes against what I consider to be 'good boxing'. Luckily, I've got shut loads to learn and watch from the annals of history, and that keeps me engrossed every single day. There will probably come a point where I don't watch 'the modern game' (if it keeps on down it's slippery slope over say, the next 10 years) but I can't ever see myself getting bored of the great fighters I've witnessed from yesteryear. Too many uninspiring 'Elite' fighters around nowadays for a me, only a few I still get the big night feeling for.
I get the buzz more about MMA events nowadays. Fedor Vs Big Foot and Shogun Vs Jones both had me nigh on hyperventilating beforehand
Are you serious? Sky charge about £60 a month. I don't mind paying because I like the sports. But it's a long way from being an inclusive amount of money that brings people together. I would totally understand your anti Primetime stance if you weren't so delighted to be giving Sky four times as much of your hard earned money. By the way, I thought Saturday was great entertainment. Good fights. Good coverage and a nice bit of controversy to get the casuals talking. Heard The viewing figures were high too.
Broaden your horizons I say. There's nothing that wrong with boxing nowadays IMO, people just choose to not pay attention to certain fights/fighters, which is their loss, not the sports.
I would've scoffed at watching a black and White fight a couple of years ago. Nowadays, I'm watching everything I can of the 70s Bantamweights, chronologically viewing all the Archie Moore I own, watching every fight I can of every fighter I'm interested in to figure out exactly what they were about. And then you look through their opponents. And then their opponents :-( I haven't got time to watch these guys. Maybe in 20 years time when I hear someone say 'that Frankie Estabarra was one of the best P4P fighters of all time' or 'Ryu Shoryuken would've annihilated Andre Ward prime for prime' I'll be intrigued enough to look into them. Unlikely, as I say, looks to be downhill from here. Only an opinion

What you on about, the Sports package works out around £25 a month, that is with having about 10 Sports channels running 24/7 with hundreds of different Sports. Sky is value, it's not value for Boxing but in general it's value. A dedicated PPV channel charing for single events, could work out around £50 a month alone for Boxing.
Yeah, I do get too irritated with it sometimes. But too much stuff I know will give me immense enjoyment for me not to stay in the game, obviously I'm still interested in current events, just not as in depth as I used to be. So many fighters have already done some incredible things. I like finding out about that stuff instead ;-)
I absolutely agree so I stopped watching the PPV's and just watch the domestic ones thse days, officials aside they generally want to win more to get to the next level.

A few months ago I wouldn't have watched a black and White fight myself, now im scouring the web for any Hurricane Hank fight I can get my hands on, or any Floyd Paterson fights of semi-watchable quality. Fighters of the past, regardless of what era they're from, intrigue me more than any current fighter can seemingly do.
Ace choice of words. For example, when re-watching Chang-Chitalada II last night, the matchup, the fighters in it, where they were going into the fight, how it played out and the amazing feat I felt Chang had achieved by it's close...much more fulfilling than anything I've watched as of late. And it was cool, but hardly Ali-Foreman in the grand scheme of things. Yet it felt like essential viewing.
I am with you on that...:good I tend to dig out fights from my library much more often than I used too...:yep
