That's no reason to be "disillusioned" with the sports current state. There's a greater quantity of fighters from every single era in history than there is currently fighting, shocking. It's nothing to worry about. People don't appreciate what they've had till it's gone. Turn off your Khoashai, watch Mijares, embrace Mijares.
I'm past the point of caring about the big fights. They take years to make, are almost always disapointing (who wants to name the last superfight that was actually a super fight?) I don't give a toss about Pac/Mayweather anymore, if it happens I'll watch, if it don't, oh well. I just like to have a few beers and watch a punch up, and boxing does still deliver action, last week we had a great prize fighter tournament on Thursday, Tyson Fury is a banging fight on chanel 5 on Saturday, and some good action on sky an hour later. You get lots of action from little known latin American guys too, I'm not bothered who I watch so long as I get to see a good fight.
As much as I would love to agree with you, it just was not so. Yes I could watch Tee Jay fight on a Saturday afternoon Grandstand, but there was brilliant Mexican fighting around that time, that Magazines were wanking over, and yet could I see Julio Cesar Chavez? No, not at the time, not even on Closed Circuit. Things did get better with Sportsworld Extra, the cancellation of WOS (leading to stand alone Saturday afternoon boxing (To this day I still rant and wave about Hines/Hilton) and indeed live midweek bills from Vegas, but still there was an awful lot missed, that would not be missed, one way or another now a days... That said; Second's Out; that was brilliant!!!
Boxing reached its peak in the 1920s & has been in decline ever since, most of my favourite fighters are retired or dead I'll sit through all the bad fights, the bull**** decisions & corrupt politics because every once in a while you will get to watch a great fight. At its best there is no purer sporting spectacle than the fight game, no other sport demands as much from its competitors & produces individuals like boxing has done & will continue to do so. Modern day boxing has so many problems but they wont ever stop me watching
I don't really like Khaosai. And was into Mijares for years. I've done that, now I've moved on (or back ;-)) I prefer those fighters as well. Fought more regularly.
