Anybody else impressed with Marquez despite being dominated?

Even though Floyd dominated the fight im not talking about his heart or determination here. But Floyd attack. He could hardly land one right hand. And after the 4 or 5th, he could hardly land his leaping left. I was thoroughly impressed by Marquez. He certainly dissected Floyd attack just like he did Pacs. He was just too overmatched physically. But he took alot of FLoyds weapons away last night if you noticed.

 

I only saw the first three rounds, but I actually thought he looked good for those three rounds despite the knockdown, and arguably won 1 and 3.

 

He was way too docile the whole fight. I thought he was gonna be aggressive? I guess that's what happens when you put a counter puncher in against Floyd. Totally handpicked opponent.

 

Not at all. JMM looked slow but he's not. JMM looked weak, but he's not. 144 was just too big for him.

 

Not impressed with him technically at all. To me he seemed gun shy and intimidated by Floyd's size. In all, the fight brought back to me memories of the Trinidad/Hopkins bout.

Offensively Marquez was also able to land about 15 or 20 hard solid counters and leads that I would have sworn wouldn't have been possible ahead of time. He showed me once again what a great fighter he is, even given the circumstances.

 

Marquez did make adjustments throughout the fight but he was thoroughly outclassed.

At the start of the fight, Floyd was 10x the fighter Marquez was and in some rounds he was only 2-3x the fighter marquez was. Marquez made some good, technical adjustments but they hardly made a difference.

 

Not really....yes, floyd was great, but i also feel after getting his largest payday marquez did have a off night at the office so to speak.....

 

honestly it was the worst jmm that i saw. he looked slowed down by the weight. you can still see the skills and the determination but welterweight is not exactly his best weight.

 

I'm a huge JMM fan and I can't find any excuse to give him any round in the fight.

 

I was impressed with Marquez, he made Floyd think twice sometimes before attacking. He also landed some good combos too. Floyd impressed me even more though with his complete skills and speed. It was a great fight all around.

 

that's exactly what i saw as well....it was the worst version of marquez i have seen in a long time....

 

He looked poor to me. Slow and intimidated.

Which of course is completely understandable. He was holding physical disadvantages in every department.

I totally disagree. Marquez wasn't nearly as much out classed as he was out maneuvered by a highly superior athlete with about "10X" the footspeed and flexibility. Every time Marquez would try to launch his attack Mayweather would be halfway across the ring. Marquez is a 36 year old Mexican boxer who has been in a fair number of wars, bud. He looked way better than he really should have. He's been past his best for some time now, and he gave up every imaginable advantage in that fight and still managed to have some great moments here and there. "10X the fighter?" :rofl You aren't factoring jack **** into a statement like that. Bad post.

 

The people who weren't impressed with Marquez got owned by the outcome. They thought he would do much better than he was ever going to be able to do realistically. Welcome to Earth. It's clear the OP had realistic expectations, and was surprised and impressed by what good Marquez did do. That's intelligence being demonstrated, and I commend you for that, DR.
