The same justification many of the greats have had.......... He's undefeated, he's fought all the challengers available so far (apart from Pacman), and he has made most fights look easy. What more could he have done?:bbb
Fought better fighters? I concede not fighting the likes of Pacquiao, Tsyzu, prime Mosley, Margarito, Williams etc... is not necessarily Mayweathers fault but it still stands that he did not fight and beat those guys and his legacy will be affected by it. His resume would be significantly better had he fought more top fighters from his era.
It's not what more could he have done? It's 'why would he be higher than those that have done so much more'. No way he outranks Masahiko Harada. P4P without modern manipulation.
It seems Michael hasn't had any contrary opinions in all his years watching boxing. Mr.300 there will be a steep learning curve on here ;-) I was a spacker when I joined as well!
He avoided the best challenges when they'd have mattered most. Whatever the reason for it, you don't credit for fights that never happened.
:good I thought the Tyszu loss to Hatton scuppered that one? Not to sure about Williams and Margarito, but really can't see him having any problems with them..... Pac...... I admit the situation is very frustrating there, but don't beleive Mayweather is avoiding the fight (and from what I've seen I really don't believe it's the hard fight soem would have you believe)..... And Martinez, I still think there is a chance that may happen. I want to make it clear that despite my comments I'm not a Mayweather 'fan'; I don't like the way he conducts himself outside of the ring, and feel in some ways he has harmed the sport. I would actually like to see Cotto win this weekend, I have enjoyed his career and think he is a true pro, both in and out of the ring. However, I think Mayweathers talent is undeniable. We can all have opinions on how good he is, and we are all entitled to voice those opinions, we'll never know for certain because for whatever reasons he'll never fight all the fighters we would like to judge him by :bbb
Floyd technically is no better than Kalambay or Benton. In terms of pure handspeed, much quicker, but also poor offensive variety compared to those two. I hate it when people say 'he's obviously amazing'. What about those who beat far better opponents many more times? He looks brilliant because of who he fights. He has never done anything remotely impressive when comparing him to say, Sumbu-McCallum I. I do not hold him in the high esteem so many do. I think a lot of folks have good standards, but they've heard 'he's a spfighter'sghter' so many times they think it's true. It's not. And also, 'he would've beaten 'em' is as much a way of proof as me saying 'Licky Sambo would beat everyone so he's one of the greatest'. Go with truth rather than hypotheticals and Mayweather doesn't figure very highly.
