Yes fancy the stoppage mate. I fancy groves to get the stoppage everytime he fights tho. Think hes 18 ko,s in 24. About 3 or 4 of them hes fought to a game plan without trading too much i.e glen johnson degale etc. But any fight he lets his hands go he usually either hurts or stops the other man at some point. If he wins always looks likely to get a stoppage for me.
Could have wrote that post myself mate agree with everything on it. Good post. Thought he could have took that decision against jack also. I actually thought he deserved the nod more than brook did against porter. Both tight imo.
Groves is one of those fighters who just looks ragged when under fire. All sloped shoulders and flailing hooks. It puts him at a disadvantage at the highest level I think, just as it did in Froch/Groves 1. Surely he wins this one though, wouldn't have picked it if that wasn't the plan.
Groves was one of my favourite fighters, but I agree he gets far too ragged and throws some weird hooks at times wildly when close. Leaves his chin out when he does it I think a top level pressure fighter beats him. If he sticks fully to a plan of box moving then he is very very good. I think people will figure out now the way to beat him is by using pressure.
Rubbish. He clearly lost to Sturm....and couldn't find the gears take a cripple who was there for the taking. Murray is very ordinary.
Watch it again. I hate the way these myths take hold and get recycled as fact. You were probably just caught up in the hype at the time following the Macklin robbery. Sturm won 116-112 8-4 in rounds.
Groves was very good then, he's improved loads since he got with Mcguigan. He looks fitter, picking his shots better and looks as fast as he used to under Booth. Gutknecht is so tough, proved it then. He took some brilliant shots there and most wouldn't have survived that long. Exciting fights ahead for Groves now.
Always rated groves. Got loads going for him. That jab of his is tremendous. Great power etc. Always quietly fancied him to take degale again at any point. But just think his vulnerabilities will hold him back in the end. As much as i rate him couldnt with any certainty say he beats degale/jack etc atm. Just uses too much energy. His insistance on fighting inside will cost him again also. Cost him against froch and still throwing unecassary shots on the inside tonight. He judges distance very well. Doesnt need to be trading on the inside...just difuse the situation. Get your breather. Seems to use up a lot of nervous energy i still cant quite work out if hes as tired as he looks or not. Good performance tonight from him tho done a lot of things very very well. Still prefer him working with booth tho rate mcguigan hes doing well for him. But booth had him a little bit more disciplined i think because he knew his stamina/durability wasnt the greatest. Actually think that played some part in there split. Groves wanted off the leash more than booth was willing to give. Groves,s footworks still good but it might just be my imagination but i think it was better under booth...same with the foot speed he seems to have slowed a bit. Again maybe just my imagination tho.
I enjoy watching Groves. His jab is brilliant. Tonight was a wide points win and he did some classy stuff, but for me he still leaves himself open way to much for that big hook. He just can't seem to stay self disciplined enough to stay behind that jab and ends up trying to go toe to toe when he doesn't have to. He will improve and I believe he will win a world title.
Groves jab is brilliant. Really makes it hard for his opponent Andrew Selby was another level. Makes it look so easy
Gutknecht collapsed and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Hope he is ok. Really should have been stopped in the last 4 rounds. His corner really didnt look after him by leaving him in there.
Worrying news...hope hes okay. Should have been pulled out after the eye went. Really didnt have much left after that. Honestly watching it did wonder if something was going wrong for him tonight...thought i seen him blinking at one point a la mclellan. And the constant trying to get the arms going made me think at the time. Fingers crossed alls okay.
