    This is true.

When ever there is a big fight and i dont get the chance to watch it live and have to download it the next day i usually look at the size of the file and think "hmm looks like it was a 12 rounder" now that is generally the case more often than not with Championship fights imo.

Of course anyone can be ko'd. Some chins are clearly better than others. But there is always a point where someone gets knocked out.

Yes. The Hawk's chin was wide open, and Alexis intuitively understood the art of perfect placement as well as timing and leverage. In both matches with Arguello, Pryor seemed genuinely impervious. Later, Alex needed just one shot to stop Billy Costello, so he clearly hadn't somehow lost his punch, or the ability to deliver it just right. (Aaron was even laughing off Arguello's low blows in their desert return engagement.) Pryor stood up to the same type of shot which sent Kevin Rooney into the training ranks and finished Costello as a serious contender.

Tex Cobb was wide open, yet even Big John Jackson's hardest kicks couldn't faze him in ten rounds of PKA action, and Jackson was proficient at knocking out opponents with his kicks. If a hard kick from a huge man can't do the job, how can any punch succeed in the same situation. (We've visited this subject numerous times in the past. The legs are on average four times stronger than the arms, yet there have been kickboxers who could stand up to the hardest kick or spinning backfist to the head. How can a gloved punch in a regulation boxing match measure up to that?)

The hardest single punch Joe Louis ever delivered in his career failed to keep his aging and rusty opponent (Uzcudun) down for the count (which freaked Joe out by his own admission). The best right hand of Max Baer's career may have been the one he scored the first knockdown with on Carnera, and the hardest left hook on film may be the first one Dempsey floored Willard with, yet they both got up.

By all means. Prepare for that southpaw you have to deal with Saturday first. This can wait. (By the way, Saad Muhammad's way of dealing with southpaw challenger Louis Pergaud was with left hooks to the body exclusively. That foray in Nova Scotia was one of his easier title wins, but then again, Pergaud was no Marvin Johnson either. Some southpaws are wide open to that punch though. Just a thought. Even Ali hooked to Mildenberger's body a few times.)

Texx Cobb got knocked out in a single round somewhere in '86, against a relatively obscure heavyweight. If anything, it shows that even having the best chin is not going to protect you in all circumstances.

Especially when you're doing drugs like crack.

Cobb also reportedly got involved in some shady dealings, raising some questions about the legitimacy of a few of his outcomes. (I remember seeing him go to the floor against Eddie Gregg. It did not look like a convincing knockdown to me, and Tex was already a professional actor by then.)

If a guy walks up behind mcCall in a bar while hes sighning an autogragh, his mouth is open and hes talking and the guy from behind hits him hard enough on the jaw it will do to mcCall what it would do to any human being who hasnt anticipated it. His lights go out and he will fall to the floor in a heap. Now, im not saying oliver wont recover a whole lot quicker than an average guy but hes still just a guy and will go down.
If you dont see it the light goes out when it lands. Its just a fact. The chins not ready, the necks not ready, the legs are not ready the vibration runs right down through to the feet and you go over. Nothing is breaking that circuit.
If you see it or sence it, even if there is no time to pull back or roll with the puch even the flinch of recognition will brace your chin, neck, legs and feet in a mili second. If you have that together with the physical atributes you dont go over.
If a guy has a reputation for a good chin im sure hes naturaly strong with big thick bones and a whole lot of heart and nerve but as well as that he will have above average hair trigger alertness and enough fittness to ward against tiredness.

There is exceptions to every rule. The most durable fighter can be ko,d Example, Johnny Dundee,a great featherweight champion in the 1920s, had 340 bouts against the best fighters of his timeas Leonard,Tendler, Canzoneri, etc.Never ko,d...In 1917 , Dundee,in a bout with Willie Jackson, a second rated, New Yorker, pulled one his famous moves, done in all his 340 fights....Speedy Dundee with his back flew into the ropes, rebounding like a shot, and was flattened with a perfectly timed right hand, knocking Dundee out cold.....First time in 340 fights ...He licked Willie Jackson ,9 times after...Perfectly timed blow, can spell bye, bye, to any fighter......

I agree with McGrain. I think there are some guys who are gifted with chins and resilience which means no other boxer can knock them out. I think anyone/everyone could be stopped/TKO'd under the rules of boxing, but there have been a few guys in history who have proven in their careers that they are incapable of being knocked out by a punch.

It's ridiculous to say 'no'. It's a thing of mechanics of human body. A proper shot to the chin makes everyone go to sleep.

The Sonny Barch fiasco may only be the tip of the iceberg where Cobb's career is concerned. (Who else did Tex do coke with before and after "fighting?")
