Yep gave up on it a few years back, Felt and still do that Mayweather would beat Manny. You could tell it weren't gonna happen so in end my attitude was and still is forget em!. Ok there fighting i'll watch them but not be to fussed about what fights they take/make and how there performing..

They didn't want to do what the sport needed and wanted and that was fight each other. Both have failed not just one they both have let themselves down when it came to negotiations. Not that there to bothered, Still earned massive amounts of money etc..

    Sort of happy.

Always felt Mayweather would win due to their styles. However it's a shame that he now has this fight as another excuse to not make the fight.

IMO it tarnishes Mayweathers legacy more than Pacquiao's

That might have been the case, Macho. Myself, i don't think he was intentionally trying to carry Cotto. I think he was happy to settle for a win whatever way it came.

I actually think Mayweather got slightly buzzed at one point with a sweeping hook (can't remember the exact round) he may have settled for a decision then. The same thing happened against Marquez. He was starting to be aggressive, then he got caught with a right hand along the ropes and decided against going for the knockout.

Cotto fought the best fight he could've fought at that juncture but he just can’t force a pace that Floyd couldn't overcome. Also Cotto is a strong puncher but he's not a numbing “I didn’t see that” type of puncher. You can see Cotto’s punches, He was able to rough Floyd up because for the most part that's where Mayweather wanted it.

You don’t win rounds by doing better than expected.

i would rather see pacquiao v mayweather than marquez v pacquiao 5.

styles make fights, and yes mayweather the best counter puncher around, but his style is differant to marquez countering style. marquez can sometimes get involved, whereas mayweather rarely get involves in toe to toe exchanges.

mayweather would be a clear favourite as i've thought all along, but it would still make an exciting fight. Especially if the reckless high movement pacquiao of last night turns up.

I personally blame Bob Arum from preventing the most lucrative prizefightin history.

    Yep....

''Floyd doesn't have to fight the best fighters because he'd beat them anyway''

It's a shame he didn't share the confidence of his rabid group of fangirls, that's all I can say.

He wanted absolutely nothing to do with Pacquiao in early 2010 after the fight with Cotto.... Manny looked like an absolute beast in that one.

''Oh, er.. we need drug testing'' :dead

    ''I'm not giving 50-50, I'm the cash-cow'' :dead

Worse than when he stuttered on camera when asked if he would fight Margarito for $8m. Ran away from that too and fought Baldomir.

    :deal

Had to put one of my mates on Facebook in his place on Sunday. He immediately put up a status: 'proves Pac was never on Mayweather's level. Mayweather whoops him'. Pretty much told the **** what Beeston above me has written. Waiting for your closest rival to go over-the-hill and watch someone else beat him, does not gain you any points, knobhead.

I wouldnt read too much into Cotto v Pac beeston. Cotto effectively was 2 weights below his comfort zone and it showed bigtime imo. Floyd will always have the beating of a fighter who comes forward and the better offence they have the more Floyd picks them off. He uses their own aggression against them. Im sure the day will come when Floyd gets beaten due to mother age and I have a sneaky feeling Saul Canelo Alvarez could be the man to do it. I would still tune in to a Mayweather v Pac fight though :)

Didn't know Cotto was a middleweight :think

Anyway, the Pacquiao of 2009-2010 -- with his blend of high volume punching, footwork and awkward angles -- was the biggest threat to Mayweather and his backing off in straight lines type defense. Sure, Mayweather would have been the favourite, but Pac's style would have been problematic for him.

I feel its more likely to happen now.

Couple fights next year to look impressive (if the marquez fight doesnt happen) to get the bandwagon rolling again and then Arum will see a cash out fight with Mayweather in late 2013.

Cotto in the previous fight weighed in at 146lbs. Cotto in the pac fight had to make 145lbs. Cotto at that point had never even fought at light middleweight, never mind middleweight. He was a 147lbs fighter who had to make 145lbs. How on earth was he 2 weights below his comfort zone?

His next fight was at light middle which is where he should have been for a while at that time. Anyone remember how iffy he was at 140 when he took ages to eventually step up. And the fight with pac may have been for his welterweight title but a welterweight fight it was not

Can you imagine struggling to make weight and then once you have removed every last gram of ****, sweat **** etc then to have to remove another pound or two. Its nigh on impossible and can only be done by not eating nor drinking and making yourself quite ill then 24 hours later you get into a fight with a guy who is well hydrated, well fed andwell rested. If its only a couple of pounds why did pac ask for it? because he knows the damage to his opponents ability due to the weight struggle gives him a good advantage.

This is common knowledge in boxing and has been done for years

Which doesn't make it "Cotto effectively was 2 weights below his comfort zone". And the notion of him being a natural 154 pounder, is weak. A natural 154 pounder wouldn't attempt to have his 154 pound fights at 150 (Marg II). Not to mention Trout, last weekend, comprehensively debunking the myth that Cotto's best weight is light middle. There's a reason why Uncle Bob kept him away from prime, fully-operating light middleweights the whole time he was there. Because the moment he stepped in with a proper one (like Trout), he knew he'd be out of his depth.

Cotto's just a guy who, at this stage of his career, wants comfortable training camps. He can't be bothered going down to the weight he should be at.
