I think now that he's been gone for a while, it is really getting clear he was not only one of the best trainers of all time, but also a tremendously talented commentator.

I miss him dearly on the casting team.

Not really. It's sad that he passed away too early, but his commentary was probably the worst on the team.

I'll miss Roy Jones when he's gone. He's the best HBO has. I prefer Roy over Manny. Manny too nice to be overly critiical.

But the Showtime team is so much better.

I'm even getting used to Ranalo's exaggerated voice. You noticed just how good that team is when Paulie is away fighting and they get an inarticulate dumbass like Tomato Khan to fill in.

Not only Manny, but also the retirement of Merchant has lowered the bar at HBO.Kellerman is pathetic and Jones is all about himself.Poor Roy lives in the past.

IMO, people are starting to realize is that they are much more interested in hearing real analysis and commentary about the fight they are actually watching (Showtime) and less of the self-congratulatory, sanctimonious and non-fight related bullsh!t that HBO was offering.

Merchant and Steward had gotten stale. No one wants to tune in to hear how much the commentators dislike fighters or the fights they're watching.

I liked Stewards commentary & also had massive respect for him as a trainer. However I think Paulie @ Showtime is underated - he also gives a good insight

To quote Manny himself "It is going exactly how I thought it would."

Steward and Foreman were the greatest commentators. Too bad Foreman has moved on...

I liked him. From a commentator point of view, I miss Larry more though.
