Don't get me wrong he's a fantastic fighter great to watch so powerful at the weight he is at, cuts ring off perfectly and he is relentless. I get all that and that side of the hype to him.

I also see a small middleweight 5 10 on a good day who gets tagged a lot! When Murray wanted to he pushed him back and he was also timing him when he was coming in with right hands and Murray never really been known for his great counter Punching skills has he.

I'm a big fan of murrays tough as tarzans feet but he's no where near an elite fighter. If he can land the way he did on golovkin then what will happen when he does get in with the elite.

I personally think froch beats him all day long naturally his punching power won't be as effective at the higher weight all big punchers experience the Same thing when they go up the weights. Yes he ll still cut the ring off and be non stop but he ll also be getting hit by a lot bigger punchers. Froch would be to long to tough for him If he could keep a good pace for the full 12 froch does enough damage to him to force a late stoppage in my opinion or at least win well on points.
Andre ward takes him to absolute school aswell.

Hbo talk as if there is going to be no one to match him until he gets to light heavyweight it's all hype in my eyes. He's a truly awesome middleweight if he stays there he will maybe be champion for a long time but moving up won't work aswell as people think.

Well, I agree with you to an extent and there's certainly holes to his game technically (as with anyone I guess).

The main thing I think he has going for him is all psychological though. In interviews he is nice as pie, very cheerful but when he flicks that switch and gets into 'hurt-mode', seeing it across the ring takes 10-50% out of any fighter he faces IMO.

I believe you are down-playing Murray's talents and, to be totally fair, one of the best middle-weights in the world, bang up for the fight of his life essentially got a systematic pounding at the hands of GGG and never looked a threat in the fight at all. That is frankly amazing.

Of course there are people who can match him on paper (with the right tactics) and GGG can clearly be beaten in ones imagination by current middles with the correct skill-sets....but......well......he's clearly got gears (plural) left! That's the scary thing really. He's dispatched of a large proportion of his realistic contenders and they've done precious little but ruffle his hair a bit. He's definitely special but at 32, he won't be dominating for a decade like some of the greats.

Totally agree. The guys very very good. What he does well he does very well. But like most punchers or relentless fighters people tend to overplay them a bit. HBO selling him well and like most things if someone tells you something enough...you start to believe it. Comparisons of the next mike tyson are stupid. Hes going to the top...but he wont be having it his own way while he's there. Reminds me of a relentless kosta tyszu. Who to be fair was a great. As someone said on here the other day the first fighter that puts him on the backfoot will beat him. No one at 160's beating him tho. But he'll struggle to keep his 0 at 168 imo

The only reason murray landed so often was becuase Golovkin was setting up traps for him to open up.

In the end murray looked like he had just been through a car accident and this is the same guy that got robbed out of a decision against Martinez

I think Froch with his experience, power and solid chin would be a candidate to beat ggg.

As for Ward, He would simply get walked down and knocked out, there is just no way he'd be able to hold off ggg for 12 rounds and he doesn't possess as good as punch resistance of someone like murray or froch.

GGG is just as smart and techincal as ward albeit offensively, so this talk of being schooled is really stupid.

The hype is ridiculous but doesn't mean GGG isn't still an exceptional fighter. To go against the grain and down grade ggg because of it is just ridiculous and sounds more like sour g****s from murray fanboys because their guy got brutalised.

Not really downgrading him tbf. Just saying the way their speaking about him you'd think he'd cleaned everybody out already. I d fancy ward to beat him plus would give froch a good chance as well. My problem is your saying the only reason murray landed so often was because Golvokin was setting up traps. Imo how many traps do you need to lay when you ve got your man on the ropes covering up pretty much not firing back much.

When your opponent is just in there to basically survive and his only strategy is to hold their hands up to their face all night, then you need them to open up and the only way is to lure them into a false sense of security.

Golovkin has shown in previous fights that he has a better defence, but he wasn't really respecting murray's power so the whole night he didin't care about taking shots.

GGG even said himself he wanted for murray to come forward and fight.

Sadly murray's only intention was to go as long as possible so he could go home and say went 11 rounds with ggg.

See what your saying doubleedge but thats a few fights now i ve seen golvokin getting tagged. I m sure angel garcia mentioned it in the lead up to the fight. Golvokin does try to lure people in. What i m saying is how effective a strategy is that gonna be against harder hitters. Its allright saying he wont but how else will he lure them in. And if its effective why isnt he doing it.

Dont agree that murrays only intention was to go as long as possible. As much as it sometimes appeared that way. He pretty much said after the fight that when you get in there with him he just pushes you back with his power/relentlessness. Not a direct quote but similar. I thought murray deserved his plaudits.

Dont get me wrong golvokin is quality. But not near the level of hype he's getting. He's great too watch plus technichally very very good.

GGG did what he wanted when he wanted and didnt lose a second of any round against the second best middle in the world.

I think he is doing OK.

If he stays at middleweight I think that is almost inevitable because there's nobody out there likely to beat him at that weight.

Yes he gets hit in other fights, but no where near as often as he let himself in the murray fight.

No fighter is perfect, and as such, an offensive fighter like ggg who takes risks going forward relentlessly is going to get tagged at some stage during a fight.

This is boxing. Using getting hit as a stick to beat someone who has a solid chin with, is a bit silly.

I mean look at Kovalev, another great offensive fighter, but he has been knocked down, and caught occasionally in fights, but it doesn't matter because he ends up mauling his opponents

And I'm sure if ggg was to come up against someone who has power to hurt him, he'd adjust his defence accordingly.

Saying that, I agree the hype is ridiculous considering he is yet to take out some truly big names in the sport, but he has impressed in every fight, made it exciting and mauled every single one of his opponents and boasts an incredible ko record.

I think comparisons with Tyson are fair.
Tyson completely fits the bill of the "puncher / relentless fighter" who got overplayed a bit.
And HBO and the entire global media sold him well.

Of course, Tyson was American (from New York), a heavyweight, a 20yo youngster and became undisputed champ (something GGG has yet to do) ... so his hyped crossed over to the mainstream immediately.

Tyson did what he did very well, but had obvious limitations in his style and size.
And he got beat up and knocked out by Buster Douglas just 3 years, 3 months after winning his first title.
So that's all GGG has to aim for.

Golovkin is the best middleweight in the world today, by far. He has great timing, distance, balance, thinks in the ring, adjusts to his opponent, has huge power, good chin, and actually a good defense, he moves his head enough to take the power out of his opponent's punch..................if anything, he is underrated.................Martinez refused to fight him, he is Cotto's mandatory and Cotto will, most likely, give up his title rather than fight him. Murray is being underrated here also, Murray knocked Martinez down and beat him, but lost to a home town decision. Murray beat Sturm, yet got only a draw, when he fought Golovkin, it became a mismatch. Murray tried, fought hard, is very strong fighter, big middleweight, bigger than Golovkin, yet got stopped after being knocked down three times................Golovkin has fought the best middleweights he can get into the ring. He is trying to fight Cotto, make Cotto defend his mandatory, but watch Cotto give up his title and duck him. Geale was a former champion, knocked out by Golovkin. Ishida, now a heavyweight, was knocked out by Golovkin in the 3rd round, knocked out of the ring and out cold. Ishida knocked Kirkland out in the very first round, went 12 rounds against Paul Williams, Williams could not hurt him at all. Stevens was fast and is a hard puncher, came down in weight, Golovkin is fighting the best he can get into a ring..............

Golovkin is under-rated, not the other way round. I've never seen a puncher of his calibre who throws punches in high numbers so late into a fight. Almost every great puncher has the achilles' heel of either stamina problems, inability to hold a shot or brittle hands. This guy Golovkin really should be appreciated, because he'll be gone in 2-3 years, and we will miss him badly when it happens.

I for one am completely blown away by him. Murray is in my opinion the second best middleweight in the world and Golovkin took him apart. His punching power is extraordinary and he lands his shots with precision - I read somewhere that he connects with more jabs than any other fighter in the sport. As for his defensive skills, Murray hit him with only 131 punches on Saturday night. That is a very good statistic. Perhaps his defence could have been a bit tighter but I believe that once he found out Murray couldn't hurt him he made the decision to open up a bit more in order to land bigger counter-punches.
