Dont agree at all mate. Personally feel you ll struggle to get another mike tyson coming through if at all. Tysons one of them guys because the casuals (no offense to anyone) peg him as the greatest ever the experts try to downplay him. Add to the fact he was an unsavoury character

He really was a one off...go back and watch his fights. A 20 year old not only beating heavyweight champions but pretty much destroying them. We ve all heard the talk of them being a terrible bunch of heavyweights but its another tool to beat tyson down with.

Mike tysons greatness was largely down to circumstances...where he was trained to be one thing from an early age. It wasnt like mike was going down the gym for a couple of hours after school. Plus taught by a man that pretty much lived and breathed boxing his whole life in cus d'mato. I know people will disagree with me but i say mike tyson on his best night beats any heavyweight ever.

Mike tysons hype was deserved. All you need to do is go back and watch his tapes to see why.

It ended up a short prime. Where pretty much people put down to his style getting found out or he was a bully that as soon as someone fired back wilted. The truth was he blew it to an extent. As much as the douglas story is a great one...tyson beat himself that night and it wasnt down to on the night. Was always going to happen in the end. Tyson that fought douglas and pretty much everyone else that ever beat him wasnt the same tyson that was coming through. As much as people try to claim it was and he just got found out. Wasnt training properly, got new trainers that were pretty much thought of as useless. Stopped doing the things that made him great. . What i m saying is the hype at the time was warranted imo. A lot more so that golvokins as great as he is. I dont think anyones disagreeing that golvokins isnt great...but the hypes ridiculous. Stick him in with cotto. Imo golvokins all wrong for cotto. Its not a great style to beat golvokins but he ll give him enough problems to show that golvokins is beatable. As much as murrays a decent fighter and he pretty much got beat every which way...the very fact that some think he's the 2nd best in the division shows how weak the division is.

You know the one thing that stood out for me, over every single attribute that GGG possesses....... Is the way he carries on staring into Murray's eyes, even when whilst Murray is throwing a combo to his head.

Rewatch the fight, and look at some of the slow motion replays. GGG just doesn't flinch, it's almost Cyborg esque!

Golovkin has a ring presence that almost transcends weight class. I can see him being just as formidable at super-middle weight because of that; the way he casually walks big middleweights like Murray down - in an intelligent, stealthy fashion, not Ricky Hatton style - is something that won't leave him unless he really bites off more than he can chew in a physical sense.

I actually am almost blown away by him. Remember as well Murray is an underrated fighter who was at the top of his game against Golovkin. Guys go in with him with nothing to lose - bringing their A game, fighting at the peak of their senses- and he still brings it, and is relentless.

Froch is easier to hit than Golovkin. I think a lot of the shots he takes is down the tactics he uses, he hunts down oponents, which can lead to taken a couple of shots. his chin so far though has held up. Id definitely fancy him to beat down Froch.

Yeah I noticed that too, this is why I call him the modern day ivan drago/ terminator hybrid.

The man is a machine and loves hunting down his opponent like mad dog after a bone.

Overhyped imo. And hes my favourite fighter to watch at the minute. Middleweight division is poor if we're being honest. Any guy that had genuine talents pretty much finished. Apart from maybe jacobs. You know its a poor division if murrays thought of as being number 2. Much like the guy above a few posts made the point that golvokins not like hatton at walking his opponent down meaning hatton was terrible at it. But if people look back to before hatton fought mayweathers etc he was class at walking his opponent down with angles and getting his shots in etc. Its just that it was made to look bad against guys of a higher standard. The same will happen with golvokins the higher the level goes. Dont get me wrong he's a great fighter. I know cotto's avoiding it but get golvokins in with him and he'll give golvokins some problems. But only the bigger guys will beat him imo. Got to be cotto in the next 2 or 3 fights then on to the higher weight class for me. Would be wasting his time fighting at middleweight for the rest of his career.

Tyson was great but I think he was going to get beat a lot sooner than the hype made out, whatever he did.
As great as he was, he stood 5'10 or 5'11, had short arms and relied on coming forward - he had exactly one style of fighting. At heavyweight, with those attributes, soon enough someone's going to take him apart, just like Douglas did.

I can see why some think that Golovkin is overrated. He has not got those flashy skills, like a Roy Jones jr or a Ray Leonard, and he hasn't got a physical presence about him, like Tyson had.

But what I like about him is that he makes his fights look easy.

Martin Murray, Daniel Geale, Curtis Stevens...these guys are not elite fighters - no one would say that - but neither are they easy to beat. GGG made it look easy. He was never troubled, rarely seemed to be under any pressure. That's the sign of a quality fighter.

So basically OP thinks GGG is really good but just isn't very big?

I agree that he's very good and I agree that he isn't big. However I don't agree with the notion that because he isn't the tallest that means he cannot be successful at SMW. Of course the fights will be harder, there are better opponents there who are also bigger. At SMW only Ward would be a clear favourite.

Saying (paraphrasing here) 'GGG gets hit sometimes and is shorter than some SMW's so he won't be successful there' is a bit too simplistic imo. It's like saying Froch hasn't got a great defence or handspeed so he won't be successful or Ward lacks the power to compete at the top level. You have to look at a fighter as a complete, overall package. Like any boxer, GGG will have his strengths and his weaknesses.

As for size GGG is similar in weight to Froch, similar in height to Glen Johnson, James Toney, RJJ and Calzaghe and his reach is only 1 inch shorter than Andre Wards. GGG would be small for SMW but small fighters can sometimes be successful (Cotto and Pacquiao for example).

GGG vs Ward - I think they would be each others toughest opponent so far in their pro careers. GGG's intelligence, timing, ability to cut off the ring, inside game and punching power would make it a tough fight for Ward. I would favour Ward based on his combination of speed, size, defence and intelligence.

GGG vs Froch - Froch's power, toughness and length would make it a difficult fight for GGG. I would favour GGG as while both guys are tough and powerful, I think GGG is the more skilled fighter. Imo that skill advantage trumps Froch's length advantage.

Its all about opinions mate. But no one up until just before dougles could deal with the short arms, height etc. People like to overlook the fact that the tyson that lost to douglas was a very different tyson that blew through most of the heavyweight division. That 5'10 or 5'11 with short arms and relying on coming forward is a valid argument baring in mind tho tyson had tremendous power/speed/strength.

But what set Tyson apart the two ones that people sometimes overlook with him on top of that above was his head movement and his combination punching. Two things that werent there against douglas or even leading up to the douglas fight. The rot set in not long after leaving the original trainers. Sure it was only a few fights prior to douglas.

Tysons head movement was unbelievable in the early days but it only ever came back as a token gesture afterwards. Same with the combination punching...the system they had was something else. When he stopped training a certain way it ended in disaster. But no way was the tyson that fought douglas the same tyson coming through or anyone afterwards imo. A fact that a lot of people allude to.

I said 12-18 months ago that i felt Kovalev was a better fighter, which upset people. I think Kovalev has a better jab, sense of distance and power although his Balance is not as good as GGG's.

Ha ha, spot on! I was saying the same thing during the fight. We were comparing him to the cyborg of the Terminator films ha ha.

That's why I said earlier he knocks 10-50% out of any figther (so far) simply by demeanour and focus.

For the record, Froch takes him IMO as does Ward (if he still is Ward). Although oddly, I'm less convinced by the ward match-up since I think Ward dirties/spoils his way to a sketchier victory than would a tactically superior (to GGG) Froch.

I'm not keen to hold it against GGG if he doesn't step-up, middle-weight is a prestigious division and he is head and shoulders above the comp. If he keeps his aerobic conditioning he could still take out the best of the rest for a few years and go down as a GOAT middle which ain't half bad. Oh and be treated like God himself in Khazakstan for the rest of his life ha ha.....

Even when Mike Tyson was blowing people away, there were cynics and skeptics.

Even when Ali was looking unbeatable, he had doubters.

    Same thing now with GGG.

No matter how great a fighter is, he can't please all the fans. It's just human nature to find flaws in greatness.
