Anyone else think Juan Diaz should drop down to fight PAC?

In my opinion Manny shouldn't move up to lightweight yet (shouldn't move up at all I think). There are still names he should fight at 130 (Marquez, Guzman, Soto, Valero...) If I was Manny I would completely sweep the names above starting with Marquez then down the line. Now I believe that if he clears the Jr. lightweight division then at that time I would consider a fight at 135.....Remember people Manny started in the 108-112 division...Thinking about the situation of him moving up weight to 135 seems to be a stretch of the imagination for me.

 

well, as a kid starting out at professional boxing, juan diaz was a light-welter (140 lber).

An out of shape kid. There is a reason he moved down. His situation is entirely different and is more of an exception to the rule.

Is anyone disputing this? Nope....I am disputing Pacman fans bringing up his start weight of 106 as though this was his natural adult size. It wasn't. It's why he moved up 4 weight classes in 4 years skipping 2 weight classes all together.

 

ok. so you should agree that for things to be equalized, j. diaz has to move down being the naturally bigger guy. if he can't make 130 which i know he can, then a catchweight of 132 will be a good alternative. i think he weighed in at 134 for the julio fight.

 

Pac needs to get more credit than he does for moving up all these weight classes even if he started his career so young.

Fact of the matter is we are talking about him fighting a guy who started his career 8 divisions above Pacquiao

Nope...absolutely not. Diaz was naturally bigger at the start. Pacman, like all fighters as they get older, carry more weight.

Diaz is 24 and has not had this happen yet. Pacman is nearly 29 and as illustrated by the fact that he has weight over 140 for his last 3 SFW bouts, he is carrying more weight. Also, Pacman said it is getting hard to make 135. He also said he would consider fighting D. Diaz at 135. There is no reason then given these facts for him to suddenly ask Juan Diaz to meet him anywhere but 135. Why would Pacman be so willing to move up last week, but this week suddenly ask for Diaz to come down.

To be fair...Pacquiao hasn't asked for this, only his fans. And last week, when Pacman said he was considering this move up, Pacman fans were all for it and saying he could beat the champions there. Now after watching Diaz, there are threads like these suddenly wanting Juan Diaz to come down, which was never mentioned before. There is no logical reason for Diaz to come down considering Pacman's own admissions about weight and his own plans.

 

No, he should get credit for winning titles at such a young age. Not for fighting bigger fighters when he was moving up, because he wasn't fighting bigger fighters. He was growing and just as big as them.

 

well, in the end it is ultimately pac who decides who he wants to fight. he did say though that a very large part of his choice will depend on who the fans want him to fight next. and according to the pac website which he visits, the majority of fans there want him to fight jmm next.

At 20 years old (adult), he fought at 112. At 20, Diaz fought at 135.

 

At 20 yrs old he had also fought over 112 a number of times and he skipped 115 and 118 all together because he was growing so fast. He skipped 4 weight classes in 4 years because he was growing. Pacman fans are constantly pointing out that he was KO'd because he was weight drained because he was still growing. He didn't move up to fight larger men....he was not a natural 106 fighter moving up through the weight classes.

Don't get me wrong, Pacman was basically an untrained kid winning Lineal titles. That's quite impressive. But he wasn't moving up in weight and fighting bigger fighters than himself.

Who cares what Diaz's natural size is.
