Anyone else unimpressed by khan?

I feel his power is pretty good. The thing that seperated Maidana IMO is his heart. When I say heart I mean not only getting up from the body shots but heart to keep loading up on shots even when he was getting hit alot. Most fighters start throwing Arm punches when they are being hit alot in fear of being countered. Maidana let it fly and Won the fight by 1 point on my drunk score card (haven't watched it sober yet). Still the willingness to bring it with loaded up shots is what will keep him in any fight regardless of the style he's facing. Every fight will look like this past one unless he is fighting a defensive master which will not happen.

 

I was unimpressed because every Khan fan and even Maidana fans felt as if Maidana only had a punchers chance in the fight, it was felt that if Maidana didn't knock Khan out then he would get virtually shutout in route to a Khan UD.

Marcos made it a good fight and a close fight without even knocking Khan down, even Freddie Roach thought Maidana wouldn't win a round.

Amir had all the advantages speed, height, reach, skill and he also has good power, Khan was the favorite going in and i felt that if he won by decision he would do so by winning at least 9-10 rounds comfortably, but he lost his composure when Maidana stated to land and he stopped putting anything on his punches,

He would just get off his combos and retreat, i felt if he would have committed more to the body and sat down on his power-punches more he could have stopped Maidana, after those two vicious body-shots Maidana was done, he seem to not even wanna get off his stool at times.

Khan didn't have that killer instinct and lacked composure and it looks as if pressure and power can rattle him in future fights, i don't see anyone without power sitting back out-boxing Khan but with the right fighter and gameplan he looses, if Zab is on the menu next Khan will definitely finish Judah, but i can see Alexander and Bradley giving him problems, he's not a hard person to hit and that makes me question his ability to dominate the Jr. Welterweight division.

 

Bradley's footspeed and ring I.Q. is definitely good enough to elude Maidana, not so sure about Alexander.

 

If Maidana was able to get a score of 113-112, against a favorite like Khan in a fight where he didn't knock Khan down and Maidana not being known for being a good boxer and many suspected that he wouldn't win a round i think it's very likely someone can win a decision over Khan.

 

Kotelnik isn't really an elite fighter and Victor Ortiz's lack of heart ultimately lost that fight for him, had Victor had more heart he could have easily won that fight, but i do think Maidana is a good fighter.

Maidana is a good fighter. You watch the Kotelnik fights and you'll see Maidana landed more clean punches than Alexander did. Maidana's offense is about more than just power.

One thing that surprised me same as you is Maidana ability to take Khan's shot to the chin. Was not expecting that.

 

I picked Khan by schooling, and he definitely did Not school Maidana. I think that he was lucky to get out of the fight without getting ktfo, honestly. I'm not all that impressed by Bradley or Alexander, and neither is the puncher that Maidana is, so I could see Khan using his height and speed to beat either of those fighters. But Bradley's a smart fighter, so I wouldn't be surprised if he figured out a way to beat Khan.

 

I'd really like to see a rematch of this fight. I think Maidana deserves one.

very true, the thing i was unimpressed with was his lack of defense, espcially on the inside, he seemed a bit confused, or as if he just doesn't have it, however he's still young and learning, given time and if he improves his game i still think he'll be the dominate champ at 140 and eventually 147

 

Corley, Kotelnik has never been stopped in their careers. Hell even though Khan easily beat Kotenik in a boring way, Khan not once hurt Kotelnik. He didn't ko Ortiz but he did make Ortiz quit when Ortiz was beaten up with bust up eyes and face. Hell Maidana bust up Ortiz, Kotelnik and Khan pretty bad. <<<His punching power overrated? Nope if he can bust up those fighters.

 

Had Victor had more heart? lol come on i say that's an excuse. Maidana make Ortiz quit cause he was busted Ortiz up very badly. Hell if Ortiz didn't quit then he would have been ko by Maidana.
