Anyone know why Calzaghe has decided against fighting Pavlik?

I really can't see Jones fighting Kessler in Denmark. Kessler is younger than Calzaghe, hits harder, stronger and will probably make less money. He'll probably price himself out, it doesn't look like a Jones opponent to me.

Pavlik would fight him Wales, the fight would still sellout, and Pavlik would be easier to negotiate with

Calzaghe could sell-out in Wales fighting Coco the clown. It's PPV numbers he'll be worrying about, and the evidence so far is Pavlik isn't a draw in this respect.

    a) he knew how bad he performed against hopkins and he was lucky to get the decision
    b) he has his precious 0 to defend and without it hes nothing
    c) money

He's been mentioning Jones as a potential opponent for 7 years, apparantly (I haven't read it) he dismissed the fight in his autobiography after Jones' losses to Johnson and Tarver, apparantly he now considers Jones to have re-established himself as a viable opponent.

He hasn't 'changed his mind' about Pavlik, he's mentioned him as a potential future opponent previously, I've seen nothing to suggest he no longer considers him a potential future opponent if his career stretches that far.

    What else is to know?

Because after what pavlik did to his sparring partner Enzo told Joe to stay away from him.

Utter horse **** mate , Lockett is 20 levels below Calzaghe , if you think Calzaghe would be in the same **** as Lockett was V Pavlik then your badly mistaken , Pavlik is a quality youngster but a wise old cat like Calzaghe is a totally different ball game , I really hope Calzaghe does fight Pavlik should Pavlik get passed AA , and he gets past Jones , Great fight .

Roy Jones isn't a ppv draw either

Didn't Pavlik just do some of the worst PPV numbers ever, if not the worst?

I know it was Gary Lockett, but what exactly would we be expecting with Calzaghe? Nobody knows him in America. It's the American fighter that has to account for most of the PPV numbers, and the signs aren't great for Pavlik right now

I am certain Jones pulls in more.

Not that I care about this, I almost sound like a Floyd fan. It's not really a valid excuse, but I think it is Joe's thinking.

I have played Age of Mythology with Josey Wales.

If that isnt you then where does the name come from? Must come from some famous guy or somethign if two different people happen to chose it it would seem..?

I don't think Calzaghe, at his age, is motivated to be involved in a grueling fight, especially when he does not have to. I think Joe beats Pavlik, but he would have to work for it. Roy Jones is a different fight thats gonna go 12 rounds with both guys coming out of it not seriously hurt

    No

The Lockett fight wasn't on ppv. The networks wouldn't even air Jones' two previous fights before Trinidad.

Jones is a has been, and he was never that big of a draw to begin with. The Tito fight did well because of Tito.

Joe is slipping, is coming off a tough fight, and is taking an easier fight for comparable money. He's really banking on Jones' past success to legitimize this fight. In the end, I don't even fault him.

Oh well, I'm not really an expert on money issues. I suppose you are well versed as a Joy Boy, so I'll take your word for it ;)

Maybe its less money, and more Joe not wanting a potentially tough fight at 36. I thought this was part of the reason, along with money, but maybe this is entirely the case.
