Saw him knock out Roger Mayweather for the IBF title back around 1992, then saw him lose to Pernell Whitaker several months later.. From memory, he was a tough guy who was stopped only once in his career.. Big puncher with a durable chin. The Mayweather and Whitaker fights were the only showings that I viewed however..

Seemed to have a couple of decent attributes, as he was a good puncher, had reasonably fast hands, decent chin and accuracy. Low punch output though and the performances I saw he didn't seem to have a lot of variety to his game.

I think he retired or dropped out of sight for awhile post Whitaker, and then I remember he was suddenly back in the late 90 to early 2000s, when he got a victory over Oba Carr and had fights with both Judah and Cory Spinks where he gave them problems.

    Good description,

Its been years ( probably 20 to be exact ) since I've seen him fight. I remember him fighting Roger Mayweather on HBO one evening.. Roger was winning nearly every round before a big shot caught him on the chin and was knocked out. I was cheering for Mayweather and was disappointed to see him beaten by a guy I had never heard of... Months later, Pineda was handely outboxed in a fight with Pernell.. Can't remember what Class they were fighting in, but I think it was either Junior Welter or Welter... Anyway, the guy's name popped into my mind this morning and figured I'd compare notes.
