Anyone Think Size Will Have Nothing To Do With Cotto Beating Pacquiao?

Two slightly differing views in the same vein. I could lean either way right with yas. Appreciate the input.

To my point above. Pac knows how to convert speed to power. Too many fast guys are 'ruined' by the amateur point scoring system. They pull their punches so they can land more often. In short, I think Cotto will have to respect Pac's speed/power.

Size could play a part but it will take a whole lot more than that alone because Cotto hasn't got such an advantage he can be complacent with it. He is still going to have to get his feet in the correct position to time Pacquiao, he's still going to have to avoid the majority of Pacquiao's punches and that is the essence of boxing. So in the main its going to come down to his skill.

I think Pacquiao can hurt Cotto so he can't just bulldoze Pacquiao on size and not think about how he's going to outbox Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is the better fighter. Cotto is the bigger fighter who is also excellent on his own. Cotto's size will not negate what Pacquiao brings to the table. Cotto has shown a leaky defense and Pacquiao will find the mark too many times, and too cleanly, for this one to go the distance. Cotto won't be able to just gut this one out as he has in tough contests before.

I won't be surprised if Cotto doesn't really appear all that much bigger than Pacquiao. Pacquiao has grown into 140 quickly and looked fine next to Ricky, who comes into fights weighing just as much as Cotto, and is of a similar height. I think it isn't the actual size that is Cotto's biggest advantage, more so his experience at the weight. He knows what its like to be hit repeatedly by some of the more vicious welterweights and jr welters around (although the results of this haven't always been good).

I am fairly confident in a Pacquiao win, and if the size advantage was totally negated, i would be 100% certain of a Pacquiao stoppage. His offensive arsenal, fluidity and use of angles matches up too well with Cotto's gaping defensive lapses down the middle. If we find out Cotto can take Pacquiao's very best shot, he is going to be in trouble. But i think this is unlikely, Ricky might not have had the punch resistance he once had but not many people could do what Manny did. He also beat the courage out of Oscar in a round or two (who although terribly weight drained, has always had great punch resistance).

Size won't have anything to do with Cotto winning this fight. Cotto has to weigh in at 145 so that means he will be under or at 145 at the weigh in. There is no size advantage for Cotto. Cotto has one thing that can never be underestimated, and that is his boxing IQ. He's been hurt, down, cut, hit with body shots, etc...basically Cotto's see it all in the ring. Pac has also. Pac at 140, and gaining only 5 pounds is a great advantage for him. History shows that the majority of the catch weight fights are won by the guy coming up in weight.

Cotto had a good amateur career and he has a high boxing IQ. What Cotto lacks is a big right hand, and that is why I favor PAc over him in this fight. I think he can weather PAc's storm, but Cotto won't be able to catch Pac, and after several runds, PAc will stop Cotto.

I do not think Cotto will be able to utilize his size because he is coming down in weight-even if it is only 2 lbs. We used to have an old saying in the gym...if you have to lose a pound, you have to lose 3 to make weight. Cotto has to lose 2, so he will have to lose 4 imo.

its easy to say cotto is damged goods etc but it doesnt change the fact that cotto its a great boxer and can punch i wouldnt be surprise if cotto outboxes manny and stop him in the later rounds manny is fast indeed but cotto has underated speed once cotto starts to time paquiao 's jump paquiao may start to think defense and not ofense

Hatton landed a good right hand, Oscar landed a couple bodyshots and neither bothered Pacquiao.

I'm not saying either of them are indicative of what Cotto is going to bring, but I think the people expecting Pacquiao to fall over as soon as he's hit by a welter are in for some disapointment.

Reminds me of before both the fights I mention, people expected Pacquiao to be over and out after a punch or two and its pretty unlikely.

i think cotto will win regardless.... and also, look at the pics, cotto is not that much bigger then pac, also look at the measurments of both fighters, pac holds quite a few measurments over cotto.

Cotto will win this off of skill (jab/timing), intelligance, relentlessness, and body punching imo.

Size doesn't win fights. Skill wins fights. Cotto's got the proper skill to handle Pac's speed. I'm not saying who is going to win just yet. I picked Pacquiao to handle ODLH and Hatton without too much trouble, but I think this is a much more difficult fight.

Cotto has good size for a WW, but he's not a "big" WW like some people think.
