I'm not denying the great history you lot had in the past, just think there could've been a lot more exciting fighters in it had it not been for the prominence of scottish boxers. The cuts werent fine really were they, if any fighter turned up for a 4 rounder with anything like near that they'd have their licence taken off them for 28 days. This is 1 reason i'm not too keen on this prizefighter thing. Tbh Burke's tactics were a bit un sportsmanlike but what would have you have done? There was £25,000 at stake, also a big career boost. I'm not making this an English Scottish thing mate, I was impressed with Brawley and McArthur and glad Brawley won, was just putting my point across as to why I thought it was the worst prizefighter.
Maka... hope you had a good night... I was massively unimpressed with the whole thing... Brawley did not look particuarly good and Burke didn't box anywhere near as well as I expected. With regards to the cut damage. No way should McArthur have been allowed to continue boxing. The cut started bleeding immediatly. This is after 25 mins had passed. It must have needed stitches but rather then use a sub they send the poor fella out to get a silly loss on his record just so he might make it to the final. I don't expect that Gilmour forced the BBBC to make that decision but he seemed to be the one delivering the good news each time and as the promoter of the show and manager of the fighters it seems a bit biased from a neutral perspective. Obviously if his fighters make it to te final he stands to earn alot more then if Damian Owen fights Stephen Burke.... not to mention a lucrative rematch of the final that he could put on at a later date. The quality of the boxing was hugely substandard in comparision to the other shows with one massive exception... McArthur looked sensational. Not a world beater but I think he will definately move into the top ten domestically at some stage in the near future though he needs a little tidying. Brawley didn't impress me at all. He looked uncomfortable under pressure and just seemed unexceptional in any area while lacking any polish. Another Prizefighter like that one and i'm pretty certain they'll kill it.
i'd have boxed (if i were a boxer) within the rules, wouldnt want DQ'd for nasty shenanigans and losing out anyway on the dough, goin from what i've heard the pay even for being a sub is a substantial nights work £3000 for sittin watching boxing, i understand theirs alot of training to go through, which just means theyre available and fit for the next few weeks if a call comes to step in for an injury or somethin. i must admit their was an air of "jiggery poakery" as they say hear, when the draw was made and it came out england vs scotland, and i must also admit gilmour is a shrewd customer when it comes to goings on behind closed doors, but surely he could'nt palm off the officials and the doctor......or could he? hmmmm !! having saw the replay today, mcarthurs cut was worthy of pulling him out, maybe if their was'nt £25,000 involved he might have pulled out himself, and goin into the semi's brawley was 13/8 fav ?? god knows were that came from, regardless of mcarthurs cut, i would have had him favourite.
Gary Mcarthur boxed beauitiful, he was by far the better schooled fighter. Gary Mcarthur would have won the prizefighter if it hadn't been for the cut sustained by the headbutt.
jeff..... cheers man, it was an "o.k" night, certainly no fireworks involved (appart from the crowd) but i know what your saying, brawley had very little style, kinda 'maussa" esque the way he was operating, and the way gilmour high tailed it out of the arena behind brawley to get that eye seen to, makes me think he was set up to win, christ brawley said it himself after the 1st fight, "thats the hard one out the way, i think i'll go onto win it" mcarthur did look really fresh and sharp, good training camp for beiing out as long, and also getting over the aberdeen f.c player zander diamond stealing his bird (mcarthur later went onto smash diamonds car up) lol would like to see him stepping up, maybe defending his masters title vs a henry castle or such like, i do notice though he's not even in the top 40 lightweights rankings, but still holds the masters title, surely if he's been chucked out rankings for being inactive he'd be stripped?
I was also at the event last night and savilles fans were a joke, the guy that stood at the front shadow boxing and lifting an empty red bin was hysterical. A few women started abusing him, the rest of the crowd just laughed. Mccarthur looked a different class from any of the others in my opinion, but well done Brawley.
i was sittin bout 10 seats to the left of him, i had the cross hairs fixed on his fat stone island chin, if he threw that bin, he'd have got lynched. also noticed brawleys mrs was happier than him, and i'm positive i saw her taking an argos catalogue out her bag
were you sitting near Barry Morrison? I was the row behind him just the other side of the aisle from the Saville fans. In fairness they were all singing but it looked like one guy had been watching football factory before the boxing.

lol, no probs, he thinks its not too bad, from a boxers point of view, and would love them to do one at light welter, and would even consider moving up to welter to compete if they had another one at that weight, its good money when you're not working, you should have came over and asked him yourself mate he's just waitin on news of a date for the eliminator against nigel wright, thats out to purse bids, and has to be fought before july :good
excellent m8, cheers. I was actually going to kick you off your seat just incase it kicked off with the wolves boys. My m8 isnt much of a fighter compared to yours. I think the boxers must find it hard to get into a rythym with 3 rounds then a break for half an hour or so.
i might have planked one on your chin if you kicked me off ma seat :smoke haha we were discussing "what if's" so no worries it was all under control lol, we can all be a bit boisterous, but, theirs alot of kids around and mums and wifes etc... no need for that carry on. yep, i was thinking that myself, 4 or 5 rounds of sparring in the dressing room, then out for the 3 - 3's
