Lol if anything I'm surprised so many Pac fans stuck it out on the forum and that May fans haven't rubbed it in as much as I expected. I'm neutral to both, mad respect for both fighters. However I remember people trolled hard after Pac got KO'd by Marquez and half of the Pac fans dropped off the face of the earth. Glad to see that most the discussion has been civil and boxing technical by comparison.
http://www.ultraimg.com/images/Hilarious.gif Mayweather right hands counters must of had some sting on them, judging by the above gif. And How Manny seemed to want no part of being hit with it.
His 2 right hand counters in that first round made Manny gun shy. He didn't want to get hit by that at all.
After my long thread, I watched the fight again. Although the sentiments and all of the points hold true, I watched this fight really closely rather than in a party setting and there were things Mayweather did that I didn't see. I wouldn't say he 'outclassed' Manny, but he did beat him fair and square and show he was definitely the better fighter on the night. Manny Pacquiao IS past prime though and should be remembered as such when considerng their rankings among the ATG's because: 1. Manny is no longer the same guy as he used to be before the Marquez KO loss. Manny of 2009 would have walked over Mayweather's shots, getting hit in order to hurt and overwhelm Mayweather. This is not the Manny who walked over Cotto's, Margarito's, Morales, Barrera etc. shots to land his own. 2. Manny is noticeably slower. His reflexes have definitely declined and his speed also. What do you expect from a man with over 60 fights (many wars) etc. and is 36 which is ANCIENT for an offensive fighter? Because of his convincing win, I don't hate on Mayweather as much lol I appreciate the dudes boxing. It turns out it was Maidana that would have beaten Mayweather if Maidana took a page out of Mayweather's book and ran after being ahead in the round. That's all it would have taken to beat Mayweather. With that said however, Mayweather would lose only to the very greatest at this point.
Floyd could land his punches from range though, Manny reacting the way he did there puts him at a distance where he cant get his own offence off.
As a Pac fan who believed that Floyd feared a fight with Pac back in 2010 (and still believe that. :yep), I have to give Floyd credit for his performance on Saturday night last. I'm not a great fan of what many call 'running' or 'hugging' and I can understand why Pac felt he won the fight, as he was the agressor, did not clinch, and landed the more telling blows. However, having watched the whole thing twice, using my own criteria for scoring ( mostly, hit and don't get hit !), there is no result possible IMO except a points victory for Floyd. My score is 8 -4 (116 -112) for Floyd. If I stretched it, I could see 7 - 5 or even 9 - 3 (115 - 113 or even 117 - 111), but Floyd was definitely the victor here. It's not the same Pac as 2010, but it's not the same Floyd either. Both men have lost a step or two. Even in 2010, I would have made Floyd the slight favourite and it might have been closer. So, kudos to Floyd at 38, for finally stepping up and settling the question.
I've always preferred Pac but like Floyd says himself he always finds a way to get the job done. I respect him for that.
